Sleeping Mr Pepper

During the last few months ..

My wife and I have been noticing that Pepper, our 13.5yr old Shih Tzu, has been loosing his hearing and his sight has been diminishing. Although this is a part of life, it also saddens us to know he is aging. Sometimes it can be funny, like when he is barking at the front door after our arrival home, not noticing that we came through the side door. Barking, barking, barking… And never realizing were in the house. I feel bad but he gives me a good laugh. It can also be very cute, when you arrive home and he does not hear you come in and remains in a deep silent sleep. I just want to squeeze him but I have to gently shake the pillow or his be it can also be very cute, when you arrive home and he does not hear you come in and remains in a deep silent sleep. I just want to squeeze him but I have to gently shake his bed, or in this case a pillow, in order to gently wake him up. No matter how gently you try he still wakes up a bit startled.

I captured him fast asleep on a couch pillow near a window sill. I walked in and he did not hear me come in and I had to go over and gently pat him. He woke up and was so excited to see me and also very confused about how I was able to sneak in without him noticing.
