Why I'm moving from Dtube to Dlive

In the question of Dtube vs Dlive it's valuable to understand what your needs are and that these toolkits + ecosystems are in early development and evolving quickly.

It's OK to support both of them, that's part of the reason I'm sharing what I'm sharing here though I'd rather not duplicate content and post the same video on both platforms.

These two video platforms have a lot in common:

  • They both extensions of the Steem social media framework.
  • They are both new, technology wise and user-base wise.
  • They both allow you to upload pre-prepared video.

Dtube has:

  • More people and a longer legacy.
  • A fee taking 25% of author rewards.
  • A policy of deleting stale or less watched videos (I'm not sure if this deletes all the video information or if it just deletes the actual video - that would explain why so many older videos fail to play on Dtube).

Dlive has:

  • The ability to live stream and interact in real time with viewers.
  • A better record of reliability for viewers (either because of the way videos are stored or not because Dlive doesn't delete videos)
  • A different way of managing Follows/Subscriptions.
  • A large focus on Gaming videos
  • A Donation option
  • More hands on curation
  • Community chat tools
  • A phone app which is nice and potentially very handy for streaming and connecting with friends on Steem.

So I'll be moving my videos from Dtube to Dlive though I'll still share the love with Dtube from time to time though don't have the capacity to invest too much in both right now.

Thank You to both Dtube and Dlive for making these amazing tools available and for helping us to come together around great content! 💚

Oh and BTW, while I'm building up a Dlive library you can always browse older videos here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkjc1BEyzFpuWZfFuUduVRA
