Caving in Ireland - DLive video with Epic Ireland

in #dlive6 years ago (edited)

After attending TBEX in Killarney, Ireland, myself and a group of other travel vloggers and bloggers went on our own trip. Click here to see my adventure in Killarney. We rented a minivan and drove up past Limerick up towards Galway.

Let me introduce the team. First we have Todd who has a Youtube channel called Todd Hata. Jon vlogs on his channel called Here Be Barr. Crystal is known as The Petite Adventurer on her blog. Kaleigh eats as she goes with her blog, KK Travels and Eats. Finally the logistical and mother figure of our group, Vrithi, with her blog called Epicurious Passport.

The first stop we made was at the famous Cliffs of Moher. Since we were short on time, the only way we could see the cliffs was if we parked at the designated lot which charged us 6 Euros per person. What?! We didn't expect that. Not worth it if you ask me. But it might be worth it for you if the Cliffs of Moher are really high on your bucket list. I recommend parking elsewhere and hiking to see the cliffs.

After about 15 minutes of viewing the cliffs, we had to scoot to meet our guide for the day, Micheal (pronounced Mee-hall). He is with Epic Ireland, an adventure tour company that lives up to its name.

After grabbing a bite to eat at a local cafe to get fueled up, Micheal led us out into the countryside where he said some caves are that he would take us through. I doubt I could find the place again if i tried. The place Micheal took us was so remote out on the one-lane roads I don't even know how he knows of it. I'm pretty sure it's one if his trade secrets.

We parked on the side of the road and started getting geared up. The full caving ensemble. Hard hats, neoprene socks, rubber boots, coveralls, knee pads, head lamps... serious stuff. Then we started the hike into the woods. We tried to avoid the knee-deep mud as we hit the treeline. But soon things turned into a super green moss-covered fairy tale leprechaun forest. I don't think I've seen anything like it. Beautiful.

As we got to the entrance of the cave, we quickly realized that this wouldn't be a very comfortable excursion as one of the first things we did was belly crawl through a tube that some of us barely fit through. Once out of that fix we found ourselves ankle deep in *underground river water. We relied solely on our headlamps to see anything as it was so pitch dark in the cave that I couldn't tell whether my eyes were open or closed.

After crawling, climbing, and squeezing our way through the cave we emerged back into the forest. To our surprise, Micheal asked us which way was the way out. None of us knew. The hole we emerged from wasn't the same as where we entered and our bearings were all screwy from being underground for an hour. So we walked around for a bit until we found some familiar landmarks and traced our way back to where we entered the forest.

For a couple in our group, it was the first time doing any kind of extreme activity like this. I love going with and encouraging those that want to push themselves out of their comfort zones. They did great and Vrithi said it was the coolest thing she's ever done.

Heya, just swinging by to let you know you're being featured in our Daily Travel Digest!

DLive is having issues right now. Hopefully the video will work soon.

I think you have to update the thumbnail manually.

You're correct. Thank you for the info.

That looks scary, you have to explore the path? I have done spelunking before and the trail is already known, but that cave looks more extreme. I wanna try it though. :D

I'm unable to watch the video but it may be due to my internet, it's always slow here. I was able to watch your biking in Ireland video the other day and it looks awesome! I wish to be able to vlog like that in the future. :)

DLive had some ipfs issues but you should be able to view it now.

I'm really glad you enjoy my videos. Vlogging just takes practice.

I was able to finally watch it. What an epic adventure from going in those small spaces to getting lost in the forest! :)

That's a bit worrying when Mee-hall loses his bearing.

Apart from the scarey cave bit, it looks like a great adventure!

The whole thing was a great adventure, haha.

Nice Dave! Congratulations on doing the thing! That was pretty cool. I hate tight spaces and I'm not sure I could keep up with that one. Cheers!!!

Thanks, haha. Our guide was 6'4" so anyone smaller than him could get through. The tight tube was actually voluntary so some went around it.

Congratulations
this cave very beautiful
