The Bathroom

Bathroom before

The do-do list for the bathroom had quite a substantial amount of tasks that needed to be performed. It had been newly tiled but very little finishing was done.

To Do:

1)Buy and install shower curtain rod

  1. Install hand shower system
  2. Fix the toilet overflow and cistern leak issue
  3. Seal the tiles around the bath with spray-on tile sealer - Amazing stuff that, and highly recommended when moving into a new place. It stops moisture from getting in behind the tiles and is just another layer of insurance in case the tiler didn’t use sealer when he was tiling.
  4. Caulk around the bath.
  5. Fix grout spill and complete grouting in the bathroom.
  6. Remove the cigarette burns from the bath.

Wait, What?!!

Surely the most random thing I ever had to do.

I thought I was dealing with stains...
Nay nay!
These were burns.
Somewhere in the history of the house someone had decided that the soap dip in the bath was a perfect cigarette rest while smoking on the loo. The plastic of the bath had actually melted. No amount of bleaching and elbow grease would get these puppies out.

It was time to break out the big guns.

It was time to unleash the power of.... a foam sanding block!

These things are AWESOME! And only recently stocked in South Africa!! I love them so much!!
Using a very fine sanding block I managed to wear down the plastic to be flat again.

Next up it was time for my brand new, Christmas-present electric sander to shine! It came with a scrubbing/buffing pad and I used this to buff out the sanding marks.

TaDaaa!

Is it perfect? Not by a long shot. But it is a heck of a lot better than it was.
Eventually the owners may decide to replace the bath. Until then I can have a shower without being reminded of someone smoking on the loo.

I have plans to redo the bath using a Rustoleum product, But it costs almost the same as a new tub, so I have put that on hold for now.

What is the weirdest thing you’ve had to deal with in a new home?

What a weird place to smoke. Thanks for sharing how you fixed it. Useful information!
