Here are some ideas for a more advanced necklace construction scheme than I used in Part 1: eye pins, black jasper beads, and spacers. I will be making this from copper, and will also make a toggle clasp using wire and a large jump ring. Here are my materials:

An eye pin is a bit of wire with a small loop formed at one end. Of course, if you buy wire in the proper gauge and material, you can make your own. I bought a combo package that included head pins as well, because I don't have the means to make those.

Head pins are like eye pins, but they have a head that works as a stop for whatever beads are threaded onto them. In fact, if I decide to make earrings to match this necklace, I will use head pins and follow the same procedure for forming the earring pendants. With that tangent put of the way, back to the task at hand.

I used a copper bead, an 8mm jasper bead, a copper spacer, a 10mm bead, another spacer, another 8mm bead, and one last copper bead. After stacking the beads on the eye pin, the next step is forming another eye at the opposite end with my round nose pliers. As I start shaping the curve, I trim the excess off bit by bit as I approach the shape I want.

If in doubt, trim less than you think necessary. You can always remove more later. I made this in one go though, and I think it's entirely satisfactory.

Once finished, repeat as many more times as desired for the necklace you are making. I added small jump rings to the ends of my short lengths of chain, since this chain would not work with the larger gauge wire in the larger jump rings. Depending on the chain and jump rings you use, you will probably be able to skip this step.

And then I connected everything with jump rings. Yay! It looks like we're getting somewhere!

Now I need a clasp. I have no copper clasps. Time to make one! Step 1 is trimming the head from a head pin and bending the wire length in half around the round nose pliers and then crossing the ends.

A bit of plier work to twist the wires together and spread the ends resulted in this:

After that, I bent the ends to start wrapping back into a complete T.

Once done, I fold the ends back and trim as necessary to achieve my finished shape.

Then I begin wrapping some 24 gauge wire to tidy up the middle. I try to make it orderly and symmetrical, with the goal of hiding both ends inside the knot. Apologies for the photo quality.

After adding a large jump ring and the new toggle to the chain, the necklace is complete!
