He's on my shoulder...He does NOT like that.
In a very few minutes (seconds actually) he will begin to make his displeasure known....more and more stridently. Very soon the claws come out..and the teeth.

Names.
Bubba doesn't have a language (that I'm aware of)..he's NOT a social animal. I co-exist with four cats...they live together..but separately. I'd call it a state of Mutually Assured Destruction, that is "don't start no shit, don't take no shit, there won't BE no shit..but if you mess with me and I'll slash your belly out".
Luckily they are all neuters. I dare imagine what it would be like with Feline Horror Moans.
DAMMIT...I digressed AGAIN.
Names....Language...self image.
What do cats think about themselves?
Can cats even think without a language? Can anyone? Is that possible?
Language is the tool of thinking..the more sophisticated and versatile the tool...the better the product.
Is that why Engritch is the defacto world language?
Do the Chinese agree?
(note..I suspect that there are more Chinese taking Engritch courses than the reverse)

Language is a tool...
Tools are technology.
The truth is difficult to say if animals or cats can think, but what they do have is a phenomenal strategic ability, especially for hunting ... I am not a furious lover of cats, but in my mother's house, we have always lived with cats around us and sometimes it is incredible the high degree of understanding and synchronization they have with humans when sharing the same environment; there definitely there is a language in development between cats and humans ... and it is a kind of bidirectional language where the human also understands their needs at a given time: at mealtime, at bedtime, at the time of wanting to go out or be alone ... I really respect them a lot; In fact a few days ago I posted a post with a picture of one of them

I don't think there is language.
Yes, it is true, the word or definition is not language, it is communication.
Language itself is required for proper functioning of our brains, cats and other animals maybe not so much but it's true that cats and dogs both do learn human language to the point that they understand it. Whether or not they use our language to think things out is another story in and of itself, we don't know.
We've learned via deaf people of old, that if you remove our ability to have a language, even sign language, you cripple our ability to think.
