While you are right in optioning to quit if insulted , I think it will be better for both parties if the issue is reported to a higher authority for mutual adjudication and the offender punished if found culpable as necessary.

On the other hand , he/ she could be reprimanded and cautioned against a future similar act .

Humans are complex beings in behaviors . What we considers as true might not be to the other party because of different culture, orientation and perspective.
