Eigentlich lief alles nach Plan, wenngleich die Abfahrt in die Ferien etwas stressig war. Am Freitagmorgen um 4 Uhr 30 brachten wir noch unsere Freunde aus Island, welche bei uns zu Besuch waren, zum Flughafen. Danach war Packen angesagt denn wir wollten gegen Abend in Richtung Schweiz, genauer gesagt, nach Meggen am schönen Vierwaldstättersee, aufbrechen. Wir haben aus verschiedenen Gründen unsere Ferien dieses Jahr auf den Besuch bei meinen Schwiegereltern in der Schweiz beschränkt.

• Ja, lieber @homeartpictures und liebe @chrissysworld, wir werden im Sommer leider nicht in die Lausitz kommen. Hauptsächlich liegt das daran, dass ich bei einem ungeschickten Manöver ein Aussenfenster des Womos zerstört habe, eine Reparatur aber vor den Ferien nicht mehr möglich war.

Die Abfahrt in Richtung Schweiz fand dann auch gegen 21 Uhr, fast planmäßig, statt und die Fahrt verlief auch gut, bis kurz nach Mitternacht der gute alte Volvo sich anstellte, als wolle er sein Leben aushauchen. Also schnell nächste Ausfahrt genommen, wo dann das Schicksal seinen Lauf nahm.

Actually everything went according to plan, although the departure into the holidays was a bit stressful. On Friday morning at 4:30 a.m. we brought our friends from Iceland, who were visiting us, to the airport. Afterwards we had to pack because we wanted to leave for Switzerland, or more precisely, for Meggen on the beautiful Vierwaldstättersee. For various reasons we have limited our holidays this year to visiting my in-laws in Switzerland.

• Yes, dear @homeartpictures and dear @chrissysworld, unfortunately we will not be coming to Lusatia in summer. This is mainly because I destroyed an outside window of the Womo during a clumsy manoeuvre, but a repair was no longer possible before the holidays.
  
  

The departure to Switzerland took place around 9 pm, almost as planned, and the trip went well until shortly after midnight the good old Volvo queued up as if he wanted to breathe his last breath. So we quickly took the next exit, where fate took its course.

Wir erfuhren nun, wie gut es ist, wenn die Reise abgesichert ist. In unserem Fall ist der ACL (Automobil Club Luxemburg) zum Tragen gekommen und das mit großer Effizienz. Die Pannenhilfe konnte gegen 2 Uhr 30 den Schaden identifizieren und versuchte das Unmögliche, nämlich einen ausgeleierten Hebelarm, welcher die Luftzufuhr zum Motor regelt, provisorisch zu fixieren. Somit konnten wir bis zum nächsten Volvohändler fahren, Volvo Mulhouse in Sausheim, auf dessen Parkplatz wir die Nacht im Auto verbrachten - ein Hotel hätte der ACL auch noch übernommen, aber es war kein freies Zimmer mehr aufzutreiben um diese Uhrzeit (es war inzwischen kurz vor 4 Uhr).

We now learned how good it is when the trip is secured. In our case, the ACL (Automobil Club Luxemburg) came into play with great efficiency. The breakdown service was able to identify the damage around 2:30 a.m. and tried to temporarily fix the impossible, namely a worn out lever arm which regulates the air supply to the engine. So we could drive to the next Volvo dealer, Volvo Mulhouse at Sausheim, on whose parking lot we spent the night in the car - the ACL would have taken over a hotel, but it was no longer possible to find an available room at this time of day (it was now shortly before 4 o'clock).

Kurz vor 9 kam dann die erste Mitarbeiterin von Volvo an. Die junge Frau war entsetzt, dass wir die Nacht im Auto hatten verbringen müssen und lud uns gleich in den Salon im Verkaufsraum ein, wo sie und Kaffee, Wasser, Limonade und Kekse servierte. Sogar unsere Mia durfte mit rein und auf dem Teppich Platz nehmen. Ich muss sagen, man fühlte sich gleich besser.

Shortly before 9am the first Volvo employee arrived. The young woman was horrified that we had had to spend the night in the car and immediately invited us to the salon in the sales room where she served coffee, water, lemonade and biscuits. Even our Mia was allowed to take a nap on the carpet. I have to say, we felt better right away.

Allerdings war der Schrecken noch nicht vorbei, denn Volvo Mulhouse hatte an diesem Samstag Morgen lediglich zum Verkauf offen, d.h. die Werkstatt war nicht in Betrieb. Ausserdem teilte uns der verantwortliche Mitarbeiter mit, dass er das Auto nicht zur Reparatur annehmen darf, ausser, es wird von einem Abschleppdienst dorthin gebracht. Es war dem Mann sehr peinlich, aber wir verstanden, dass er halt auch seine Vorschriften hat.

Abermals hat der ACL uns weitergeholfen. Man teilte uns telefonisch mit, dass wir einen Mietwagen bis zum Preis von 850€ in Anspruch nehmen könnten und fragte uns, ob wir es noch bis zu SIXT nach Mulhouse schaffen würden mit unserem Volvo. Dort könnten wir dann unseren Mietwagen entgegennehmen, welchen er schon während diesem Telefongespräch online reservierte. Des Weiteren würde der den Abschleppdienst dorthin schicken. Das klappte dann auch mehr schlecht als recht, denn im Volvo leuchteten inzwischen alle möglichen Warnleuchten und er schaffte es nur noch mit Mühe über die 6,5 Kilometer bis zur SIXT Niederlassung in Mulhouse.

However, the horror was not over yet, because Volvo Mulhouse was only open for sale this Saturday morning, i.e. the workshop was not in operation. In addition, the employee in charge told us that he is not allowed to accept the car for repair, unless it is taken there by a towing service. It was very embarrassing for the man, but we understood that he also has his rules.

Once again the ACL helped us. We were informed by phone that we could use a rental car up to 850€ and the friendly operator asked if we would make it to SIXT in Mulhouse with our Volvo. There we could take our rental car, which he already reserved online during this telephone call. Furthermore, he would send the towing service there. This worked more or less well, because in the Volvo all possible warning lights shone in the meantime and the car only managed it with difficulty over the 6.5 kilometres to the SIXT branch in Mulhouse.

Wie wir alles Zeug das wir eingepackt hatten, in dem Fiat Tipo unterbrachten, ist mir allerdings jetzt noch ein Rätsel. Bis auf das Fahrrad und mein Fahrradsachen, welche im und am Volvo blieben, bekamen wir alles verstaut. Unser guter alter Volvo wurde schlussendlich von Alsace Depannage aufgeladen und abtransportiert. Wir fuhren dann, als Franzosen getarnt, weiter in Richtung Schweiz.

How we put all the stuff we had packed in the Fiat Tipo, however, is still a mystery to me now. Except for the bike and my bike gear, which stayed in and at the Volvo, we got everything stowed away. Our good old Volvo was finally loaded and transported away by Alsace Depannage. Then, disguised as French, we drove on towards Switzerland.

Und so kamen wir dann ohne weitere Probleme in "unserem" Fiat Tipo Kombi in Meggen an. Für die Fahrt, welche wir sonst in zirka 5 Stunden absolvieren, haben wir diesmal 17,5 Stunden gebraucht.
Jetzt hoffen wir, dass der Volvo in Mulhouse repariert werden kann während unseren zweiwöchigen Ferien und ..... dass das Ganze nicht zu teuer wird - das Abenteuer ist also nur fast zu Ende.

And so we arrived without further problems on board of "our" Fiat Tipo station wagon in Meggen. This time it took us 17.5 hours to complete the trip, which normally takes us about 5 hours.
Now we hope that the Volvo can be repaired in Mulhouse during our two-week holiday and...... that the whole thing won't be too expensive - so the adventure is only almost over.

Wir sind also nach 17,5 Stunden hier in Meggen angekommen und sehr dankbar für die schnelle und unverbindliche Hilfe des luxemburgischen Automobilklubs ACL, Alsace Dépannage, Volvo Mulhouse und SIXT Mulhouse.

Wir hoffen, dass wir unsere Ferien jetzt ohne größere Probleme verbringen können.

We arrived here in Meggen after 17.5 hours and are very grateful for the quick and non-binding help of the Luxembourg automobile club ACL, Alsace Dépannage, Volvo Mulhouse and SIXT Mulhouse.

We hope that our holidays will continue without major problems.
