Steve Irwin´s Australia Zoo Part 1
Who doesn´t know him? Steve Irwin, world famous documentary filmmaker who was also known as the "Crocodile Hunter". He tragically died in 2006 after he got stung into the heart by a stingray.
But he was not only a filmmaker and a funny dude, he also was a zookeeper of one of the probably most famous Zoos worldwide.
Wer kennt ihn nicht? Steve Irwin, weltberühmter Dokumentarfilmer, der auch als "Crocodile Hunter" bekannt war. Er starb 2006 auf tragische Weise, nachdem ihm ein Stachelrochen ins Herz gestochen hatte.
Aber er war nicht nur ein Filmemacher und ein lustiger Kerl, er war auch Tierpfleger eines des wohl berühmtesten Zoos der Welt.
Usually we´re not big fans of Zoos, but some reasons led us to visit it. First, we still had my Mum for visit and she wanted to go there, second we´ve spend many many month in this area and everyone is talking about it but we´ve never been there and third I think it is different from other Zoos and the money they make they invest quite good in animal welfare and conservation.
Normalerweise sind wir keine großen Fans von Zoos, aber einige Gründe führten uns zu einem Besuch. Erstens hatten wir immer noch meine Mutter zu Besuch und sie wollte dorthin gehen, zweitens haben wir viele Monate in dieser Gegend verbracht und alle reden darüber, aber wir waren noch nie dort. Drittens glaube ich, dass er anders ist als die anderen Zoos und das Geld, welches sie verdienen, investieren sie gut in den Tierschutz und die Erhaltung der Tiere.
Africa
The park is separated in different sections and my absolute favorite was the African one. Haven´t seen such a big enclosure for animals in any other Zoo.
Der Park ist in verschiedene Abschnitte unterteilt und mein absoluter Favorit war der afrikanische. Ich habe in keinem anderen Zoo ein so großes Tiergehege gesehen.
The Crocoseum
We´ve got told that we definitely shouldn´t miss the 12 o´clock show at The Crocoseum. Since Crocs were the absolute Passion of Steve we gave it a try and went into that massive arena. At around 11am the arena was almost fully occupied. We already had a feeling that it is going to be really let´s say american.
And that's just how it was. Loud music, totally cheerful entertainers who only talk for 20 minutes and "cheer" the audience before something happens. The only good thing at the whole show was the Birds flying through the arena.
However, there must be something for everyone. Anyway, we did not like it.
Uns wurde gesagt, dass wir die 12-Uhr-Show im The Crocoseum auf keinen Fall verpassen sollten. Da Krokodile die absolute Leidenschaft von Steve waren, haben wir es versucht und sind in diese riesige Arena gegangen. Gegen 11 Uhr war die Arena fast voll besetzt. Wir hatten schon das Gefühl, dass es sagen wir mal, sehr amerikanisch werden wird.
Und genau so war es dann auch. Laute Musik, total gut gelaunte Animateure die erst einmal 20 Minuten reden und das Publikum "anheizen"bevor etwas passiert. Das einzig Gute an der ganzen Show waren die Vögel, die durch die Arena flogen.
Es muss jedoch für jeden etwas dabei sein. Jedenfalls hat es uns nicht gefallen.
Roo Heaven
Directly next to that big arena is a massive enclosure. The name already tells you what to expect. Here it´s all about one of australias most common animals, the Kangaroo. And other smaller marsupial mammals.
This is what my Mum was really looking forward to. We´ve already seen plenty of wild Kangaroos and Wallabies. But it is always funny to get close to these animals.
Direkt neben dieser großen Arena befindet sich ein massives Gehege. Der Name sagt einem schon, was einen erwartet. Hier dreht sich alles um eines der am häufigsten vorkommenden Tiere Australiens, das Känguru. Und andere kleinere Beuteltiere.
Darauf freute sich meine Mutter wirklich. Wir haben schon viele wilde Kängurus und Wallabies gesehen. Es ist aber immer lustig, sich diesen Tieren zu nähern.
Koala
After stepping out of the Kangaroo Heaven we ran into this woman who had a baby Koala on her arm. We talked to her for a while. It was still quite young and she was just trying to get her used to the souroundings and all the sounds.
Nachdem wir den Kangaroo Haeven verlassen hatten, trafen wir auf diese Frau, die einen Baby-Koala am Arm hatte. Wir haben eine Weile mit ihr gesprochen. Es war noch ziemlich jung und sie versuchte nur, sich an die Umgebung und all die Geräusche zu gewöhnen.

War sehr schön gewesen. Die Show mit dem Krokodil haben wir uns auch angeschaut. Es war gut besucht gewesen. Was auch schön war das man zu die Kängurus mit rein konnte. Beim füttern hatten wir kein Erfolg da sie alle schon satt waren.

Your stay in Queensland would not have been complete if you didn't get to visit Australia Zoo @betterthanhome This is such a wonderful blog with great images and information. I haven't been there for years and am waiting until the weather cools down a lot before I venture into the zoo. It is on my 'to do' list for the cooler months.

Cooler weather would have been great on that day. Especially in the Croc Arena we were boiling.
Yes, unfortunately these places are not cheap to visit, although I have seen reduced prices available on groupon from time to time. It's a good site to keep handy for when you are traveling around Australia as you can pick up good deals on a lot of things. When you get the time check them out.
