Artist Statement
In my work, I create mixed media drawings and paintings that explore themes of nature, organic material, and their relationships with the manmade artificial world. I am constantly fascinated by the intersection of these two different worlds and the relationships they cultivate. Through my drawings, I bring these two worlds together in often fantastical or unexpected ways. The colors I use are often bright and seductive to immediately captivate the attention of the viewer. I strive for the viewer to be enthralled by the color and movement.

My process often begins with a pencil sketch and an automaticdrawing approach. I create the composition starting at one central image and let the restof the narrative unfold in a free and unrestricted manner. I then eraseinformation I deem unnecessary for that image. I continue by adding color andvalue with a wide range of materials: everything from marker and pencil toliquid acrylic and gel pen. This use of a multitude of materials gives the worka distinct look and presence on the page. The watercolor is loose aroundthe edges of the painting, while the colored pencil and marker help to createmoments of definition and clarity.

Dans mon travail, je crée des dessins mixtes et des peintures qui explorent les thèmes de la nature, de la matière organique et de leurs relations avec le monde artificiel artificiel. Je suis constamment fasciné par l'intersection de ces deux mondes différents et des relations qu'ils cultivent. A travers mes dessins, je rassemble ces deux mondes de façon souvent fantastique ou inattendue. Les couleurs que j'utilise sont souvent brillantes et séduisantes pour capter immédiatement l'attention du spectateur. Je m'efforce pour le spectateur d'être captivé par la couleur et le mouvement.

Mon processus commence souvent par un croquis au crayon et une approche automatique. Je crée la composition à partir d'une image centrale et laisse le reste du récit se dérouler de manière libre et sans restriction. Je supprime alors les informations que je juge inutiles pour cette image. Je continue en ajoutant de la couleur et de la valeur avec une large gamme de matériaux: tout de marqueur et crayon acrylique toliquid et stylo gel. Cette utilisation d'une multitude de matériaux donne au travail une apparence et une présence distinctes sur la page. L'aquarelle est lâche autour des bords de la peinture, tandis que le crayon de couleur et le marqueur aident à créer des expressions de définition et de clarté.
