Do you Remember? - Act 1
In any one moment we can either be fully with the experience of that moment or we can go into our minds.
Our minds are like an editing room that can splice together bits of video, sound tracks and other memory, to play it back in new ways. Do we do this because we are basically unsatisfied with what we are currently sensing?
Satiated - have received enough
Satis - Latin for enough
Satisfaction - the fulfilment of ones desires.
Do we choose memory, to leave the realm of full sensory awareness because our desires are unmet?
Where are these desires, are they present in the body, can we know them without first visiting the mind?
If I scan my body with my awareness do I find anything missing?
Am I physically in need of affection, nourishment, shelter (too hot, too cold)?
If I am too hot or cold or over-exposed to the weather, I need to move
How many of us have a big problem regulating our body temperature?
Do I need to breathe in our exhale? that is easily fixed. No need to become fixated on being asphyxiated, breathing is movement.
If I am hungry, (remember that hunger for the fat adapted may not get serious for many days) I need to hunt, forage or trade - I need to move. If thirsty, to drink.
If I am sexually aroused, is it of the body or the mind? If it is of the body, then it will be both obvious and easily dealt with if I have privacy and willing partner/s - Once again the solution is action based.
When we remove morality and the social niceties, the biology of satisfaction is very simple.
Either we need to move or we do not
Many times we feel the need to move, when in fact there is no “real” need whatsoever.
The social environment in which we live may, or may not, add complexity to our ability to be satisfied. It may or may not place restrictions or add freedom to our ability to move.
What is it that is creating our dissatisfaction
Why do we leave our senses and turn to our memory when we are not hungry, exposed to inclement weather or sexually aroused? Are we just bored, if so how much stimulation and what kind of stimulation and how often is it required?
When stimulation becomes addiction
If the un ease we are experiencing is coming from our thoughts which are then creating uncomfortable tension in our bodies then the need to move will be present, but the appropriate action may not be clear at all.
We often call this anxiety or stress, but if we are unable to access and check the validity of the thought or idea, (belief) that is creating conflict we will need to deal with the symptoms. To suppress the thoughts, distract from them or to change our emotional state with actions or substances.
Wisdom as a quality of motion
I have called this Act 1, because I find wisdom is best expressed as a quality of motion rather than clever words. Words are great but they can easily turn into opinions, a strategy to "gain or resist". When that happens, I have tried to to take wisdom personally, formed an identity from "it". I am bound to enter conflict...again. To understand, is to move and feel life as a flow in real time. When I become "upset", it is time to leave the map room of my mind. To move and more fully re-inhabit my body, time to be present and practice being satisfied with what is right now.
This is just a series of thoughts, these are not opinions, and I have no attachment to them. I write them to amuse myself, perhaps you find them interesting, perhaps not. Either way, thank you for reading.
