DESIGN A CHARACTER - Season 9 - Mike Mignola Style Entry
Hey Steemians
This is my first entry for the latest Design a Character contest hosted by @w0olf.
Out of the three styles, I picked out Mike Mignola to start with. Mainly because this is the least like my usual style.
This image is titled "Get to the chopper" where the pilot, has landed his team in hostile territory... dun dun duhhhhh
The key for this image is the limited palette, strong shapes against black surrounds. Trying to hit up that classic Mignola layering of characters and scale as well.
I create this image digitally using PaintStorm Studio, using a singular brush to block and refine the characters and shapes.
This stage is purely about working on the main character.
Next I blocked in and refined the background elements, I kept the overall shapes quite loose and simplifed.
Then some subtle refines and colour adjustments for the final image,
