Cycle Rickshaw Project | Part 1 | Topography of the Indian Road
This project was done while I was at design school, in collaboration with Design Academy, Eindhoven. We were to conduct research on the Indian cycle rickshaw to be exchanged for research on the Dutch cargo bicycle called Bakfiets. The aim of the project was to enable us to design for different cultures using cycling as a theme. Our team consisted of five students and a mentor. We spent time researching where and why they are used, how they work, their benefits and drawbacks, where they fit in a modern context and other such factors. We then compiled our research into a document co-written by the entire team, with our mentor providing the structure and format. All images in the document were taken by us except for a few sample images used under the creative commons license.
This research was done in 2012, and even though it is old work, I felt it would be good to share as it was never published online before and covers a lot of information unique to India viewed from our perspective as designers in the context of cycling. The document was already laid out with smaller font sizes, which I apologize for. You could use your browser's zoom function( ctrl + scroll) to help read it better. Thank you for adjusting!
