animal photography - chipmunk - entry for #derangedphotography contest
This photo from a chipmunk on Mount Shasta, is my entry for theme Furred Animals in the new Deranged Photography Contest, #derangedphotography, by @derangedvisions.
As I've mentioned before, chipmunks are relatively easy to photograph because of their curious nature and mellow demeanor. The only challenge is that they are small and quiet so you need to develop an eye for spotting them. But once you see one, you can usually get fairly close.

Thanks @fraenk! That particular photo is one of my favorites as well. I love those balancing stone structures that can be found all over the mountain, and to combine them with a chipmunk is icing on the cake :)
I use a Tamron SP 150-600mm tele-lens on a Nikon D800 body. Most chipmunk shots are taken at 600mm.
I guess you have to have a lot of patience to take pictures of the squirrels, since they are very elusive.
Yes you need to have patience, and you need to keep an eye open for movement. They run fast from one spot to another, which is when you most easily can spot them. After that you just wait for them to settle down a bit :)
