Is the left is all about money?

in #democracy6 years ago

The political left is usually presenting themselves as the people that do not care about wealth. But that is often far from the truth. They of course understand the importance of money and want to controll it to pursue their goals. These goals usually do not involve getting rich personally (at least that is not the stated official goal), but are completely based on money.

The left seems to live in a state of denial where on the one hand they despise all economics and profit seeking and on the other hand depend crucially on finding people that financially support them.

Freedom on the other hand, often describes as promoting a dictatorship of money, actually does not particularly care about money. We recognise the use-fullness of it, but we perceive money as one technology among many others, in wo way taking a special place. Money is a language to communicate value. That is extremely useful but in not a fundamental building block in the philosophy of liberty. However money is a fundamental part of socialism. Take it away and nothing remains.

There are some cases where this can be noticed. I respect all people no matter their job. Everyone has the unique right to choose how to spend their time. What they do or how much they earn has nothing to do with their value as humans or their rights.
Quite surprising I see a lot of my left friends look down on people that are not as successful financially and do low paying jobs. Sure they talk all about helping them and bla bla bla. But in the end, they do see them in particular way. As people that cannot take care of themselves and depend on others to save them. How convinient for my left friends, they can earn a lot, look down on others and still feel like the saviours of mankind. Of course they would never see it in that way. They are living in denial about the importance of money and tell themselves it is not meaningful at all. Therefore they cannot be discriminatory against the poor because money is not even relevant. They just honestly want to help...

Another case is unemployment. I dont give a shit if some people work or dont. Because I dont own them. If somebody tells me they do not want to work, I dont think any less of that person. Its a personal choice, maybe not one I would take, but it is not my choice to make.
For people on the left this is a big problem. Because they are in the business of redistributing wealth, participation in their vision is not voluntary but mandatory. Their masterplan relies on everyone working to the best of their ability and not working for the common good is a sin.

The left despises the unemployed and has always done so. 'The person who does not work, better does not think about eating either'. In their eyes you have to fulfil a duty. If you cannot work then that is completely fine, but if you do not want to work you are nothing but disgusting human waste.

But there is no human waste. We are all free to choose and our rights do not depend on money. We have no responsibility towards some self-proclaimed leaders. The left cannot see that because of their twisted relation to money. They believe to stand on the correct side, but as long as they do not acknowledge that their ideas are based on money, they cannot see what they actually stand for.

One has to be honest, money and productivity are extremely important. But they are not connected to our rights or value. Because the left does not acknowledge the reality of money, they constantly confuses the two.

I have generalised a lot by saying 'the left'. Of course there are many people that count themselves to belong to 'the left' that do not hate poor people and that are personally very friendly. But their philosophy still suffers from the same flaws and is either meaningless or inhumane at the fundamental principles.

Reading your piece reminds me of the fictional character Ivy Starnes.
