The Present of Democracy

It is quite ironic. Now that I've decided to tone down my ambitions concerning changing this World for the better... the first thing that I feel inspired to write about seems to suggest that I'm still on course.

However things are different now. I am not particularly worried about whetheer this post gets traction. I am saying that which needs to be said.

Let me make a make a simple claim.

Democracy as we know it is not truly democracy at all

So-called 'representative democracy' supposedly involves a populace being given a choice every few years as to whom they would like to represent them.

While its roots may extend all the way back to some 500 or so BC, Democracy only saw widespread adoption in the 19th century.

While the system of contemporary democracy was continuing to evolve, in some ways it remained the same. The rules for domination shifted and grew ever more... manipulable.

Rather than giving a full history of how back-handers and populism stole politics, I will succinctly describe the current situation.

The way that things work today, every 4-5 years the populace is asked to choose their representation. To these representatives the people shall delegate their right to governance for the next few years.

Providing a sheen of legitimacy to the process is the participation of multiple candidates with just a few front-runners.

Behind the scenes, those with money and resources get to choose who gets elected and what those candidates represent. This is not only because most front-runners can be swayed by financial gain, but also because the opinions of women and men can be perverted through the weaving of a false reality at the behest of the centralized purveyors of false truths that in turn leads to false understanding and false choices.

Source

People grow so conflicted in being given their "choices"that they often vote in the name of choosing a "lesser evil".

Never mind that those choices are being made less relevant thanks to mysteriously coded "voting machines".

Never mind what portion of the population remains unrepresented - just so long as a majority of the 'votes' elect 'a winner'.

...Ba-a-ah...

Or, to re-cap the above:

That which we know as the predominant form of political system is that of a faux democracy fueled by the fruits of opinion-engineered populaces.

Or, what I like to term... a Demockerycy.

Do you feel that your political system does a good job of representing your views and those of your fellow citizens? all of them?

If you have any comments that you would like to share then I will join you down in the comments section below.

Ahh - my friend @pathforger - I agree with you entirely. It is a corrupt system that is designed to make people think they have a choice when they simply don't have a choice about politics, where the power is allocated and what decisions are made. My question for you is - could there ever be a utopia where money doesn't influence or guide all of these decisions? If the power of money is acknowledged right from the start in all honesty and transparency, at least an openness policy will allow some influence from the masses. Where, when the influence of money and corruptness in the system is hidden from sight - that is where things are wrong.
Just some food for thought...

Thank you, @mysecondself01, both for your upvote as well as for your excellent comment. :c)

I am inclined to answer your questions in the affirmative - but then again I also need to address the future of democracy. ^_~

Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing this @baah.

Voting machine election fraud is a thing. Hard to detect but absolutely possible to prevent.

Speaking of democracy.. The president of my country just resigned last night LOL. Valentines treat.

Sorry, I've been gone for a while.. I'm back now though!

I wasn't sure how to respond to this. Its not usually a good thing for a representative of state to abandon his office - by virtue of the vacuum that they leave behind...

Of course, I gather from your tone that this person wasn't doing a particularly good job - so perhaps it is for the best. ;c)

So.... it took a presidential resignation for you to return to Steemit? :cP Welcome back!

Hahaha. It was Jacob Zumba.. Yeah no, he stole a ton of our tax money to buy his toys and mansions lol. It’s best this way!

That’s hilarious. Ironically yeah, I made my post on Steemit two hours before I heard the news about him haha.

Thanks for the welcoming!

Wowwwwww... I guess we all should be glad this dude is gone then right??? Congrats ;)

But now, how will your country pick up after this? New elections? Interim government?

my god I could open a whole hell-hole on why I think my political system doesnt represent me. Bu the fact is, per country this is different of course, so my opinion on this is not re presentable for the rest of the world.

Elections on the 26th here so hot topic

Let me give you a small example:
I hear a radio spot from a politician who talkes about 'transparency and getting all the greed out'

This is a politician who was convicted for embezzlement. Seriously, how do these people get back on the list, and make a radio commercial like this...Like serious

Thank you for weighing in @karinxxl, both with your vote and your comment! :c)

The political cycle is a fascinating beast. When they are quite literally just around the corner the very fabric of reality comes apart at the seams as the media spins its own alternative take on that which was, that which is and that which shall yet be.

Your 'example' illustrates this quite well.

Yes, the different nations have their different flavours of demockerycy - but they all (without exception - for those which claim themselves to be democratic) remain of that overall opinion-engineered false representative voting system spoken of within this post. :c)

In truth I would love to hear of exceptions. But in the meantime, simply being aware of the truth will help you to make the wisest choice available to you - entering the voting booth with eyes open.

Same here, Id love to see examples on where and how this would work flawless, bring on the exceptions!

Elections at this moment here are super biased at the moment, very wrong in timing. Since the hurricane in September here half the people dont have any roofs and live in poverty. Politicians making sweet promises, with not a single long term vision in there just makes me sick.
As you understand: I dont really know who I will be voting on yet :D

Yeap, pretty much what I think as well... Bad thing I came late to this post man, it's past payout and I think it deserved way better rewards... but it will come with time.
Cheers!

Well... yourself and @eaglespirit may be interested to know that the subsequent post has (finally) been posted. ^_^

thank you kindly for your comment and feedback. Its good to know that others have seen and reached similar conclusions.

As for rewards... they'll come with time... and a platform better than what Steemit currently is. ;c)

Thanks again. ^_^
