Coinbase...Reason #5,288 to boycott

I received this email from Coinbase a couple of days ago and, if you didn't already need a reason to boycott them, here's another:

At 1st glance, one could conclude that they are really trying to protect the individual trader from crazy market volatility (as if they really care).

In all fairness, I'm not an expert in what goes on behind the scenes at Coinbase and fully admit that this is all speculation. Let's be honest though- Coinbase has openly cooperated with the US Gov't from a tax collection standpoint- we can only guess at the level of collusion going on that you'll never read about. Every once in a while you'll get a glimpse of it, like when it recently came to light that Coinbase acquired Neutrino and mistakenly overlooked Neutrino's link to shady surveillance software that gets sold to authoritarian regimes....oops. Coinbase back-pedaled hard and made very public statements to distance themselves. It sort of worked, you don't hear to much about #deletecoinbase anymore so I think the PR program worked.

The email I think is just another prong designed to "prop up" Coinbase and add some form of legitimacy to them. I don't buy it- not one bit. Any time a company tries to tell me about new tools to help keep me safe from the big bad market, I run the other way. In my opinion, this latest Coinbase announcement is no exception.
