The NETHERLANDS? HOLLAND? DUTCH? - Some Fun Way of Learning Why We Try To Confuse People
As you may know we refer to The Netherlands a lot of the time with Holland.
In a nutshell, Holland is generally more easy to pronounce, then our official name "The Kingdom of the Netherlands". We have 2 provinces in The Netherlands with the name Holland: North Holland and South Holland. But be not confused, when you hear or say Holland, we the Dutch people, know The Netherlands is meant. And yes, the people in Holland are not called Netherlanders but we are referred to as Dutch. Oh BTW, our national colour is Orange while our countries flag has no orange at all, but is the French flag turned turned around for a quarter.

ps introduced a new tag "delagelanden" which is the combination of the three Dutch words "De Lage Landen" that was used to refer to what is now The Netherlands, Belgium and a little part of France: "De Lage Landen" was converted into the respective country names when these where formed two centuries ago after Napoleon lost his battles at Waterloo.
