Thanks for your kind comments @palikari123, I appreciate that you took the time to read my post. To be honest there's so much material there, so I actually found it very difficult to select which cables/articles/sources to include in this post.

The older I get, the more I become interested in history. However, most people don't have the time and energy to explore the past and see that events today are eerily similar to events of the past. Like you say, the same formulas are repeated aside from some minor adjustments and variations.
If we looks at Chile - the goal of "make the economy scream" with the use of economic warfare is a very powerful tool when applied by hegemonic power. A sustained effort was made to wreck the Chilean economy through sanctions, sabotage, propaganda and we see the same strategies emerging again in Venezuela currently. The economic conditions that fuel unrest and justify intervention are brought on the very same actors who are calling for regime change.
