History is a teacher of life. Who does not learn, must repeat…

Excellent lesson with striking similarity to the Venezuelan situation today.

Thank you very much, @v4vapid.

Thanks for reading @lighteye! Yes, there are striking similarities to the situation in Venezuela today. All too often it's the same guilty parties involved over and over again ;)

While I note obvious similarities in Venezuela with the tragedy of Chile long decades ago, I also note very clear discontinuities in how things are being done in Venezuela. Prior to smartphones, social media, and the internet, people had to use actual paper, phone conversations, or cables to communicate remotely, or meet face to face. This required a greater investment in those communications, and better returns on investment from the effort required to take those meetings.

Higher caliber strategies, tactics, and people rose to the top due to the higher investment required then as opposed to now. The comparison between Guaido and Pinochet is stark indeed. It seems like Guaido was simply easily pointed to via quick searching and was forwarded to his position simply due to being the first hack noticed. Little effort seems to have gone into finding a robust candidate for rebel leader in Venezuela, compared to the competent and extraordinarily dangerous Pinochets, Pahlevis, and puppet presidents of the past.
