Deep Dives eleven saw another foray into the mammoth Wikileaks archive. With millions of documents, emails, files and cables from government, intelligence agencies and private contractors, it's no wonder that this archive remains one of the most significant sources of primary material for researchers and journalists alike.

Deep Dives 11 Official Participants

@gregorypatrick

@palikari123

@thoughts-in-time

@krnel

This edition of #deepdives was an extended research challenge providing participants with more than three weeks to make their entries. Contributors were also able to submit more than one submission for the first time and we were happy to see that both @gregorypatrick and @krnel made two entries each!

Once more, we'd like to give a big thank you to all the participants in the Deep Dives research challenge. We value your original submissions, the light you shed on under-reported stories and your dedication to digging into areas that some find controversial or taboo. Respect.

Wikileaks Shows How Teams of Unscrupulous Figures Control Popular Politicians From the Shadows

by @gregorypatrick

We're very impressed by this refreshing entry penned by @gregorypatrick that takes a deeper look into the shady characters who help to mold political rhetoric and shape the opinions and positions of the political class. Exploring US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton emails sheds light on how her political leanings appear to be formulated by her advisors while also designing proper rhetorical language to sell it to the general populace is exposed in excruciating detail. This piece demonstrates, not simply the shallowness and emptiness of HRC, but conclusions drawn here can also be applied to the political class across the board who really are empty vessels doing the bidding of special interest groups.
Excellent work @gregorypatrick, truly a thought provoking submission!

Coups and Regime Change Through Unconventional Warfare

by @krnel

One of the most significant files to be found in the archive is the (US Special Forces Field Manual) on UW. Wars are not only fought in the battlefield but in the hearts and minds of men and women as well. This great piece by @krnel gives the reader a look inside the workings of UW and how some of these special tactics are employed by the military in modern day warfare. A very timely piece as well considering the buildup in tensions with Venezuela. Be sure to read Part 1 - Overthrowing Governments to Secure Resources for Mega Corporations and National Power that also explores the real pretext for US intervention in Venezuela.

Well done @krnel, thank you for highlighting the Unconventional Warfare manual as it is a critical document found in the Wikileaks archive. An entire #deepdives could be done on the manual itself!

The Penney Report and How Britain Got The Bomb

by @palikari123

After a short hiatus, Deep Dives is lucky to have another excellent contribution from @palikari123 and this is a serious dive into history and how the UK obtained their nuclear capabilities. This is a fascinating look at how British, American and Canadian scientists pooled their resources together in order to bring the Manhattan Project into the world. It also shows us that those involved in the development of nuclear weapons were well aware of the horrible destructive capabilities such a bomb would assure.

Even if the war should end before the bombs are ready the effort would not be wasted, except in the unlikely event of complete disarmament, since no nation would care to risk being caught without a weapon of such decisive possibilities.

Great to have you back @palikari123 - truly a great find and well presented!
