I was looking at the State of the DApps rankings when I noticed an old familiar dapp: Cryptokitties.

Cryptokitties is a game on Ethereum in which you collect kitties and breed them, creating more, unique kitties which aren't replicatable, given the properties of blockchain. The game actually caught a lot of mainstream media attention.

Let me repeat that if you didn't catch it: viral blockchain based game.

Now, let's just put things into perspective:

See that? That is DrugWars that has just overtaken Steemit's number 1 spot in the State of the DApps. But not only that, we have another game, Steem Monsters – at rank 4 – that has been growing steadily for months.

Ethereum was – and still is – struggling with scalability and was completely unprepaired to handle the volume just a single game caused. But looking at blocktivity, Steem is handling about 1,000,000 transactions daily, but utilizing only 0.08% of the total network capacity. Meanwhile Ethereum is at 38% capacity with only half of the transactions of Steem.

The most unbelievable thing? Nobody is talking about this. @ned has been on the news couple of times, but mostly representing Steemit, while nobody is aware of the things going on with Steem.

Maybe someone should tell the mainstream that you can produce (digital) drugs and actually earn money with that, you'd think somebody would be interested. Also, why didn't anybody tell the CryptoKitties team about Steem on which the game would have actually been playable.

If Cryptokitties can cause such a hype, we have a sleeping giant with all the dapps dominating the ranks and there's only so long it can go unnoticed.
