No D&D This Week!

Ended up cancelling D&D this week. Had one player who was going to be a few hours late and I really want everyone at our sessions so opted to just skip the dungeon this week.

I'm not too torn up about it because it gives me a bit more time to refine the dungeon the group is in right now and write up a bit more dialog for a few events in the dungeon. The more effort I put in the more fun I think everyone will have. It's good to be able to improvise but I don't think the entire session should be based off of that. I really want to improve as a DM so that everyone is excited to show up each week. I want the players to feel challenged and engaged by the story (even though we haven't had much story so far).

My last session I DM'd I focused on this large scale story that was happening in the world but I really failed to tie the players directly into the story. I had enough elements to keep pulling them in the direction I wanted but I really had issues getting everyone engaged in and excited by my story. I hope I can improve upon those things this time around and the main thing I want to change is to try and make the story directly about the players in the group so each event is more impactful.

But first I just need to convince them that it's fine to do a few sidequests to get some levels before we get deep into the good stuff.
