Die 80er waren Jahre von das, was in Venezuela der "National Rock" genannt wurde, und es war die Zeit wo mehr Hard Rock und Metal Bands in diesem Land entstanden. Sogar ich war in einer solchen band namens Fossil und sang Lieder wie Foxy Lady oder Inspirationen der Gruppe, deren texte waren sowas wie:

Aber Lederjacken, lange Haare und all diese Utensilien sind in einem tropischen Land schwer zu tragen. Aus diesem Grund haben junge Venezolaner mehrmals nach bunteren und weniger dramatischen Alternativen gesucht (in verbindung mit Lyrics).

Unter dieser Prämisse trifft sich 1991 eine Gruppe mit der Absicht, Spaß zu haben und Menschen zum Tanzen zu bringen. Zu dieser Zeit gab es ein Fernsehprogramm über Geschichte. Der Moderator war der Intellektuelle Arturo Uslar Pietri Un da wurde sein Gruß an die Kamera berühmt: "Guten Abend, meine liebe unsichtbare Freunde", um auf das Publikum zu verweisen. 1995 veröffentlichten sie ihr erstes Album "A Typical and Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band", das ihnen ein Jahr lang Arbeit in ihrem Heimatland diente. Sie nutzten die Gelegenheit, um 20 Kopien in einem Geschäft in New York zu hinterlassen, und eine dieser Platten wurde von dem ehemaligen Talking Head David Byrne gekauft. Daraufhin unterschrieben Los Amigos Invisibles einen Vertrag mit dem Label Luaka Bop des schottischen Künstlers.

Los años 80 fueron años de lo que en Venezuela se llamo del “Rock Nacional” y fue la época cuando nacieron más grupo de Hard Rock y Metal en este país. Tiempos en los que aparecen grupos como Arkángel, con Paul Gillman al frente. Hasta yo mismo estuve en uno que se llamaba Fossil y cantaba canciones como Foxy Lady o inspiraciones del propio grupo que decían:

“Hoy compartimos la alegría de poder oír rock nacional, muchos dicen que es mentira, pero es un arte nacional. El Rock es vida, el rock es libertad. Abre tus ojos y tu mente que tu vida va a cambiar”.

Y, por supuesto, el pelo largo (algo que aún mantengo), y el aspecto “dark” correspondiente a un rockero con problemas de adaptación a la sociedad…

Y llegaron los 90

Pero chaquetas de cuero, cabellos largos y toda esa parafernalia, son duras de llevar en un país tropical. Por eso en varias ocasiones los jóvenes venezolanos han buscado alternativas más coloridas y menos dramáticas (a la hora de escribir las letras).

Bajo esa premisa se reúne en 1991 un grupo, con intenciones de divertirse y poner la gente a bailar. En ese tiempo había un programa de televisión dedicado a la historia, presentado por el intelectual Arturo Uslar Pietri. De ahí se hizo famoso su saludo a la cámara: “Buenas noches, mis queridos amigos invisibles” para referirse al público. De allí toma este joven grupo su nombre: Los Amigos Invisibles”.

Para las letras escogen el humor, la frivolidad (consciente), el doble sentido y la cotidianidad. En lo musical se inclinan hacia la música disco, el acid jazz, el funk y algunos ritmos latinos.

En 1995 editan su primer disco, “A Typical and Autoctonal Venezuelan Dance Band”, el cual les sirvió para trabajar durante todo un año en su país natal. Además aprovecharon para dejar 20 copias en una tienda en Nueva York y uno de esos discos lo compró el ex Talking Head, David Byrne. Producto de eso, Los Amigos Invisibles terminaron firmando contrato con el sello Luaka Bop del artista escocés.

Ya son doce los álbumes grabados por esta agrupación, han sido nominada un par de veces a los premios Grammy y también ganaron el Grammy Latino (2009).

El grupo fundado por Julio Briceño, José Luis Pardo, Armando Figueredo, Mauricio Arcas, José Rafael Torres y Juan Manuel Roura, es sin duda, uno de los venezolanos con mayor proyección internacional.
