Peeping Tom, or Praying Mantis, peering in at our daughter

in #dailypetphotography6 years ago (edited)

A peeping Tom (er, praying mantis) clings to the window, staring in at my daughter (hungry eyes?) - look at those pinchers! Dude!

The pillars are reflections,

as are the flower pots and the deck boards. I love weird photos.
The second photo I snapped shows only the reflections in the window - including a glimpse of our dogs, Prince and Bear. None of what's behind the window shows up here.

I snapped these on my Samsung 6.

Last year, my husband got the best image ever of a mantis

at our door. Why is this one such a vivid green, and my October mantis so brown?

Speaking of weird photos,

my mom got a double exposure on my fourth birthday (many many years ago). In the background, our cousins from Chicago making their once-a-year visit show up like ghosts. I love it!

I love @kona's/ @dpet's #dailypetphotography, @supernovastaffay's #dogsofsteemit, @juliank's assorted #photography contests, and now I'm sharing the love for @theluvbug!

At least it's just the window. Once on of these things landed on my shoulder. It did not want to come off when I simply moved or tried to shack it off. Someone had to smack it away with a notebook. They are scared of nothing.

You allowed someone to kill a praying mantis? Dang! I love these things! They can pinch, but they do so much more good than bad for us, killing bugs, and they look like alien life forms, and... well, I like spiders and snakes, while the daughter inexplicably is terrrified of them.

They did not kill it, they just hit it so it will get off me. It's too scary to be killed.

LOL!! They do look scary, I will grant you that, but in the U.S. they are a protected species, and valued for their bug-eating habits. There's a horrible video of a mantis eating a hummingbird, but I won't post that here!
