Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 08/18/18> Another Saturday means another three get mentioned for SBI Saturday.
Steem Basic Income Saturday...
That’s right, 3 more shares in SBI are being given away today here at the Daily Dose of Sultnpapper. This week I do have a couple things that I need to get out of the way first and so please bear with me while I tend to those first.
But first...
A big “Thank You Very Much!!!” to the good folks over at @curie who were kind enough to extend one of their generous up votes my direction for the Daily Dose on the 15th of this month. I have come to the conclusion that those good people over there really love Texas BBQ. They couldn’t resist throwing me a bone on the “Will Eat BBQ 4 U” Texas BBQ review I did that day.
Also a big one...
Also, a big “thank you” to all those folks who recently have found their way to the Daily Dose for the first time. It is very encouraging to see fresh folks dropping by and engaging with great reply’s to the subject of the day. A few of those folks even clicked the follow button and didn’t even as me to follow them back, that rarely happens on here to me, so that was very refreshing as well.
A public service suggestion...
Here in the USA most schools are either back in session this past week or will start on Monday of the coming week so as my public service announcement I will say,” please keep an eye for the school kids while you are driving and not just in the school zones.” There are still some kids who actually do walk to and from school, despite all the danger that is involved with walking and let’s face it, the chances are they are not paying one bit of attention to what is going on around them.
Thank God...
Even the fourth and fifth grade school kids now have cell phones and it isn’t uncommon to see them walking with their phone in hand and with it placed about a foot in front of their face at eye level. So you know they aren’t paying any attention to what is going on around them. I have seen kids like that walk right out in front of traffic and damn near get run over. Thank God the drivers were paying attention, otherwise it would have been a really bad outcome.
Has something changed...
Speaking of drivers; can anyone please tell me what a driver is supposed to do when an emergency vehicle is coming with the emergency lights flashing and sirens blaring? I haven’t taken a driving test since I was sixteen and evidently something must have changed since then. I know things have changed quite a bit on some stuff in the last 46 years but I have to believe that with regard to emergency vehicles it probably hasn’t changed at all.
Fire engine to slow...
This past week I watch a fire engine going down Hwy 290 near Carmine, Texas with the emergency lights flashing and sirens blaring. I can’t say for sure just how fast it was travelling because it was going in the opposite direction of me. What I can tell you is that it was moving along at a pretty good speed and it was in the right hand lane of the two lanes that are headed west bound. To my amazement in the short period of time that I was able to view that fire engine I saw three vehicles pass the fire engine in the fast lane.
Ambulances too...
The same thing goes for a couple ambulances I have seen as they were passed on I-35 near Buda, Texas and on I-10 near Seguin, Texas. Surely the law hasn’t changed to where it is okay to pass an emergency vehicle that is in route to an emergency, has it?
Never a highway robber...
It was one of those “what the guzbuck” moments or “wtg” for me. I might also mention there was not one highway robber around either and here these people were just begging to be relieved of some of their cash driving like damn idiots. Alright, I think that does it for all the public service type stuff for today.
This week's winners...
First up on the SBI list today is @chefsteve , I don’t know the person who goes by the name Chef Steve and I have never had any interaction with him until this week. He evidently runs some contests that revolve around cooking and a dear friend of mine intended to submit an entry to a particular contest but new she was past the deadline. She even acknowledged the fact and explained why it happened, but not so that she could get them to take her entry late; but so her followers would know just how things went badly for her that day.
Rules are made to be...
Chef Steve makes the rules so he can also bend them and he did in this case for my friend, she is a regular contributor to his contests and a real good person and cook. So he critiqued her entry pointing out the good and the not so good and then told her that her post was indeed included as an entry. So, a tip of the 10 gallon Stetson goes to @chefsteve for knowing when to make an exception and not think twice about doing it, since it was the right thing to do.
Yes, I did mention newcomers...
Next up on today’s list is one of those newcomers that I mentioned who came along this week. @avizor is a food guy also, and if you go check out his blog you will see exactly what I mean by that, it is wall to wall food posts. He made a nice comment on the BBQ post and said that I actually gave him an idea to incorporate into his food blog and so for being nice enough to acknowledge that I may have helped him, I am going to help him just a little more help with a share of SBI. It looks like he posts pretty regularly so it may encourage him to think about using SBI in some contests or promotions he might host on his blog.
Quite possibly the best ...
Last, but not least, is @audreybits , she again is another new comer to the Daily Dose and I will say that I only know that she found me somehow on her own. Or maybe one of you folks from Nigeria who read the Daily Dose may have suggested she stop by. She is a very positive person from what I have looked at on her blog. One of the things that especially caught my eye was her tag line at the top of her blog under her name, that is the tag line or by line; right?
Anyway her line reads, “journeying through life with an open heart”, well I really believe that is how we all should journey through life, so for that alone she gets a share of SBI. Please do check out all these fine folks, no need to even mention where you learned of them from, we are all here in this together and that is all that really matters.
Go make a difference...
That is going to wrap up this edition of the Daily Dose SBI Saturday; I am so glad you stopped by and stayed around to the end. Now go make a difference, a positive difference, in someone’s day.
Until next time,
@sultnpapper
Hi @sultnpapper, I'm @checky ! While checking the mentions made in this post I noticed that @avisor doesn't exist on Steem. Did you mean to write @avizor ?

.I damn sure did, thanks for catching that.
Well, nice to "find" you @sultnpapper... ended here by way of your #steembasicincome tag; big fan of that initiative!
That emergency vehicle thing sounds a bit sketchy to me. Around here (Washington state) if there's an emergency vehicle of any sort with its bubblegums going, you're supposed to slow down and pull to the right onto the shoulder; on a multi-lane highway, stay to the right and in the right side of the slow lane.
I think those bozos passing were just asking for a ticket.
=^..^=
The speed limit on those roads is 75 mph, I don't know if the fire truck could even do 75 if the pedal is all the way to the floor, but there was three cars that passed the fire truck in the span of about a quarter of a mile.
I know the ambulances can go the speed limit or higher which is also 70 to 75 mph depending on where exactly the encounter took place. Buda was 70mph zone and Seguin was 75 , but those ambulances got passed as well. My first thought was that the people passing were with the ambulance and trying to get to the hospital ahead of them.
You could surely say all those drivers were trolling for ticket but there wasn't a cop in sight on any of those occasions.
Thanks for dropping by and letting us know how you found the daily dose, very much appreciated.
Oh wow! Thank You so much for the pleasant surprise, I really am grateful.
You sure did make a positive difference in my day, I will be sure to spread more positivity around today. Thanks again!
You are most welcome. Thanks for being the person you are.
One of the scariest things I can see on any given day is an emergency vehicle approaching in my mirrors. Not because I am afraid of emergency vehicles, but the law as I know it is pull over. All the way over and stop in an urban situation. My fear is the dimwits that don't running right the hell over me.
Here in Arizona the rules for emergency lights on is that the vehicle MUST travel in the left most lane. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people that don't check their mirrors and can't hear diddling along in the left lane holding up the ambulance or fire truck or cop. It's brutal.
Part of the problem is the current state of 'Driver Education'. When I grew up the school district had a donated car from a local dealer and a certified instructor to teach the appropriate way to actually drive an automobile. Now a days the kids have to take 'private' instruction and it isn't much. They really learn to drive playing Grand Theft Auto.
I have to say, the state of learning to ride a motorcycle has gotten better and better over the years. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation handles the job in almost every state and they have a REALLY good program aimed at keeping new riders alive long enough to really learn to ride. I took an intermediate course from them a few years ago (I got a break on my insurance) and learned several 'tips and tricks' that still serve me well. I think I had about 45 years of riding when I took the course. I won't teach anyone to ride anymore, I'll point them to MSF. It's that good.
I just love that there are new folks wandering around Steemit. I think it's probably a net really good thing. Thanks for rewarding them. I think that is also really important.
I never have been interested in riding a motorcycle, I had a mini-bike when I was kid and a Honda 3 wheeler ATV back before they started making ATV's with 4 wheels. Just to many idiots in cars that have no regard for the people on two wheels.
Here where we live the driver training businesses can even give their students the driving test portion of their actual driving license DMV test. That way all the have to do at the DMV is the eye test, finger print, and written testing of the laws.
Not many people will fail that driving test would be my guess, just keep passing the instructor $50 bills until he says, "Congratulation's you passed."
I always move over to the right shoulder and stop and let the emergemcy vehicle go by, and I let it get by at least a few hundred feet before I pull back out and continue down the road. That was how I was taught years ago, and until I have the state tell me differently that is how I will continue to handle it.
Sounds like the MSF has a great program for teaching, amazing that even with 45 years experience a person can still learn something new even in something they are so involved in, good for you to take the class for insurance and for safety.
I also enjoy seeing some new folks around here, especially ones that want to engage people, it has been quite a while since I have seen a new bot sign up to follow me and that is encouraging as well.
As far as I know, @sultnpapper, vehicles are required by law to pull over for emergency vehicles, at least in most countries I have lived in. Also for funeral processions out of respect. Oh, dear! Did I say respect? I think that died with common sense a long time ago.
I have seen tourist do that here too. They get off the bus at the terminal and walk right in front of traffic because they are too engrossed in their phones.
I have just found @chefsteve and I will be following him now too. My problem here, and I was discussing this with another steemian just yesterday, I have so many people that I am following it is becoming more difficult to find the time to curate all the posts. Perhaps I need to do some sort of cull?
It is very difficult to keep up for sure, I am always behind especially at this time of year when my work load is extremely busy. Things slow in the fall and winter and it will be easier then for me. I sure won't suggest culling, I might just be the one of the culls.
You would think that a tourist to a new country would at least look at what they have arrived too and put the phone in their pocket or purse for a couple minutes until they can get their bearings on where they are at and what is taking place around them.
@chefsteve seems like a quality guy.
Never in my life have I seen this kind of crap!!!
My understanding of the law is that when you see an emergency vehicle en route to a problem, you get the guzbuck out of the way!!! You sure as hell don't get in front of them. You pull over to the side of the road and wait for them to pass. YOU STOP ... so they don't have to worry about you or what you'll do next.
I've been astonished to see they don't do that in this state. (That's not the only "odd behavior" of New Mexico drivers either. Believe me. Running red lights is practically an Olympic level sport here.)
But ... no ... we've not yet become such narcissists that we think passing an emergency vehicle with their flashers on is perfectly fine.
If you're able to drive, nothing you've got going on in you petty little life can possibly compare to the problems these emergency responders are trying to deal with. Get the guzbuck over yourself already!!!
The Weasel and I pull over when we see emergency flashers behind us. We wait for them to pass -- and send prayers to wherever they're going and to whomever they need to help. We hold hands for a minute and give thanks aloud that we're safe and well and can get on with our lives.
I cannot for the life of me even believe what you just described!!!!!
It really is amazing the crap I see take place on the roads, but I drive on average about 40 to 45 thousand miles a year so I see plenty. The further out from the big cities the more bizarre some of the things get too.
I know you say, "I cannot for the life of me even believe what you just described!!!!!" but you're just going to have to believe me on this; or not, but I ain't making this stuff up. At times I wish a had a dash cam in my truck so I could have video of this stuff because it happens so quickly I can never get my phone to camera and record it.
That is so very kind if you to give @chefsteve some SBI shares mr Papper. His act really was so heartwarming and so is yours, thank you for that!
Quite alarming just how many pedestrians walk around staring at their cellphones AND drivers as well, a recipe for disaster!
I always get alarmed when I hear an emergency vehicle coming from behind as it's difficult to move out of their way in peak traffic. They're supposed to drive in the emergency lane on the left hand side but that is often blocked by minibus taxis and selfish drivers so have to weave through traffic! Not good at all but that's how it is here.
We are supposed to pull over and stop , off to our right side of the road and wait for them to pass and not follow within 500 feet but as you can tell from the post, that sure wasn't happening. It is like people say, "well if that's all the faster they are going to go, I'll just leave them in my dust and zoom off". Never a cop when you want one either, none of those incidents was a cop anywhere around.
