Skiing amidst inversion || Schladming, Austria

in #czech6 years ago (edited)

You know when you wake up ready to go skiing only to see the cable cars go into a big ass cloud preventing any form of sunlight getting down the slope?

When you get to the parking lot you can actually hear some people's first forms of doubt whether or not to even go up the slope that day. (For those who don't know what first forms of doubt usually sound like it usually goes like this: Are you fucking kidding, I'm not going up there, I couldn't even find a pub in that fog let alone navigate down the slope.)

(It's not like those people are just going to turn around though, let's be real. When you drive to the ski resort, there's no going back.)

Then again, after seeing this horror-like view one might think that there's no coming back at all

I, for one, am always excited when I see inversion up on the slope as it is just so magical and eerie to start on a sunny beak of a mountain, ski down a bit and suddenly be immersed in this massive and unforgiving sea of blindness where you only see people about 5 meters away from you. Plus there's that moment when the inversion start to fade away and turn into clouds and there's really nothing like it. The people that were previously complaining usually say that it was actually a really cool experience and how glad they are they went up.

What about you, do you enjoy skiing in inversion or are you more of a normal whether kind of a skier/snowboarder?

Hello @deploying!
It's been a long time since I have skied, but I do recall a similar situation and I did not like it, the fog was probably because of a temperature shift, because the snow became a bit slushy and started to melt...
Nice pictures and nice content, it makes me want to go skiing again!
Thanks for sharing and good luck with the "upvotes"!

Hey @friendly-fenix! Yeah, I guess skiing amidst inversion isn't for everyone. Thankfully it usually goes away in about 2-3 hours from my experience.
Anyway, if you have the chance you definitely should! Thank you

@deploying
Ha ha, yeah, I hope to do some more skiing in the future...
