Cycling through... China

Brief Descriptions of the Clips

  1. Soon after we landed at the Tianjin International Airport, we unpacked our bikes and headed out of the airport true tour cycling fashion... Over footpaths, getting lost in the parking lot and going on "highways".

  2. The first opportunity we had to camp without fear. East China had no cleared land to camp on at all making each afternoon a mission to find a rest stop.

  3. While heading down to cross the Yellow River, our map app directed us to an awfully damaged road. We carried on anyway because we didn't want to backtrack. Pheng fell off his bike that day.

  4. Many cute towns are reconstructed and they are tidy, clean and less populated!

  5. We stayed with a Chinese cyclist in Lanzhou and he co-owns a hot pot restaurant. The countless times we ate it made our tummy very satisfied.

  6. It was so good to have a cycling lane around Lake Qinghai. Away from big busses and fast cars.

  7. We embarked on a 5 day crossing through the desert to reach Dunhuang, another famous city on the Silk Road.

  8. First opportunity to have a campfire and relax by the lake. It was a lovely night we had camping peacefully without fear of anything or anyone.

  9. It has been a long time being up above 3000 m above sea level, so we descended 42+ kilometers into Dunhuang and dropped to 1000 m!

  10. carrying on going down...

  11. Peaceful sunset in Northern Xinjiang (Southern Xinjiang was getting very hot!)

  12. Another sunset at Barkol Lake, and no entry fee!

  13. Was exploring the bazaar when all of a sudden some wonderful music from the rooftop started.

  14. Making good friends on the road and sharing the good, and the bad times.

  15. Duku Rd was closed due to damages from rock fall, but was opened to cyclists making it 5 solid days of quiet road.

  16. Duku Rd was excellent for cycling!

  17. Xinjiang is bigger and less populated, so less smog and pollution. We welcomed the blue sky so we can charge the solar panel!

  18. We crossed the border and entered Kazakhstan. It was very stressful trying to leave China at the Khorgas border, so when we finally got to no man's land it was a relief to be out of there.
