Mozilla to roll out Firefox Anti Crypto Jacking Update.

in #cybersecurity6 years ago

Mozilla Firefox is a free and open-source web browser developed by Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, Mozilla Corporation. Firefox is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD operating systems.

Mozilla is taking steps to protect the users of the Firefox browser from becoming victims of this malware attack. Since the attack vector is the browser it makes sense that the browsers should be taking steps to prevent it. It is very impressive that Mozilla the open source free browser organization is doing this when $717 Billion dollar company Microsoft has yet to lift a finger to protect its customers from this attack.

Brave, another free, open source browser has already done what Mozilla is about to do but they are a newer company and less known.

Also here is an article we wrote a while back on Brave: https://steemit.com/new/@embomb701/can-the-brave-browser-protect-you-from-cryptojacking-while-helping-you-earn-money

For those of you who do not know what Cryptojacking is, it is a malware that forces your computer to mine Crypto for someone else.

While you are not technically being robbed for any money directly it can cost you by overheat your computer, raise your energy costs slow your systems performance, it can even cause hardware failures.

I find it interesting that the open source organizations care more about people then the $717 Billion dollar company cares about their customers. When the Critical Power Engineering company that I work for promoted me to Supervisor they sent me to management training. While in the management seminar, the professor recommended to us to read "Drive" by Daniel H. Pink https://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/drive-daniel-h-pink/1100819915/2660356849708?st=PLA&sid=BNB_DRS_New+Marketplace+Shopping+Textbooks_00000000&2sid=Google_&sourceId=PLGoP211671&gclid=CjwKCAjw8ajcBRBSEiwAsSky_UvxVpYLY4Hsn8LRytl7g6EX2mUPDge1WaZ7jFfBoRNkaiWBFj5iKRoCVMEQAvD_BwE
I read "Drive", (Actually I audio booked it), and it spoke a lot about these open source organizations like Wiki. These organizations have a much larger talent pool because they are open source, but more than just talent they have input from multiple people who have a say in whats going on. Consider that even if Microsoft hired all the best and brightest minds in the world, Microsoft will still have the final say on what gets implemented, but in an open source project, everyone gets a say so consensus reigns supreme. This is the oldest argument in history, Monarchy (Microsoft) vs. Democracy (Mozilla).

No matter what browser you choose a large part of your systems safety has to do with how you configure it and what sites you visit. Surf smartly my friends.
