What is he saying Tempura is not Japanese 😱 the fried beloved food dipped in soy sauce it could not be more Japanese it must be a lie. Well, it originated from Portugal, to be honest, and came to Japan a long time ago. Once there the Japanese took it in with all there heart gave it a twist and here we are with the glories delicious food liked all over the world.

Let me explain in short what Tempura is. It is deep fried food either vegetables or seafood coated in a light batter made of water, flour, and eggs.

The story goes like this, Tempura came to Japan somewhere around the mid 16th century along with a few Portuguese sailors who accidentally ended up on some of the numerous Japanese islands. And as it went down in history the Portuguese ended up trading with the Japanese. Long story short the Portuguese were kicked out and some of their traditions stayed.

Like Peixinhos de Horta not it is not an illness it is a Portuguese dish of cooked beans that are then battered and fried in oil, it was taken in by the Japanese. As we all know the Japanese are very inventive people and in 400 years they put there twist on the fried Portuguese dish. And what we got is the delicious dish brought to us today.

I think this counts as a curious fact and fun fact and you can be a smart ass next time someone orders Tempura.

Best of luck to you untill nextime.
