CURIOUS FACTS CONTEST # 3 - CURIOUS FACTS ABOUT DRAGONFLY

Dear all steemians! Hopefully you are always in good health and can do daily activities and routines as usual, and hopefully today is better than yesterday. On this occasion I would like to participate in the contest CURIOUS FACTS CONTEST 2 organized by @ river-island.

In this contest I will discuss the strange facts about the dragonfly. Very familiar insects proved to have some strange facts you may not know before. Perhaps because of the colors and acting are uniquely able to deceive us to discover strange facts about him. On this occasion I will describe three strange facts we rarely observe on a dragonfly. So able to see and ambush other small insects that become prey.

The first courius fact - Eyes

Perhaps we have thought that dragonflies have only two eyes like living creatures or other types of round insects that are almost as big as the head of the dragonfly itself. But in reality the dragonflies have thirty thousand eyes with almost 3600 (three hundred and sixty degrees) viewing angles. And the opsin on the dragonfly is superior to the opsin in the human eye. Humans have only three opsins, while dragonflies have eleven opsins. It's strange is not it ?.

If we were a small insect that was the target of a dragonfly, it was very scary. Behind the beauty of the color possessed by the dragonfly turns out to be a very strange secret that is very scary. Dragonflies are the most vicious predators for the small insects that become their prey.

Dragonflies are able to estimate the prey's speed accurately and effectively, so that the dragonfly can intercept the prey when flying, besides the dragonfly also has a jaw that is very strong and sharp, so as to tear the prey to be a meal for survival.

The dragonfly eggs that lay on the surface of the water, then turned into larvae that continue to live in the water for two more years before turning into a dragonfly. During their larvae to hunt for food, the agility possessed by these larvae makes the dragonflies a true predator.
