SFT Submissions 8/13/17 - 8/17/17

in #curation9 years ago

The SFT has curated four times now, and we've found a nice rhythm. We’ve picked three posts to curate for the past four Saturdays, have presented them in a format that seems to be working, and archived each story in the SFT Library. Yesterday, curated authors received our second SBD payout for their exemplary efforts. It was small, but all good things take time. SBD payouts will increase in proportion to our resources.

Now that we know our method works, we want to turn our attention to the greater Steemit community. Many authors of great fiction exist out there, with work we may never see without the help of their fans and followers. So here’s what we’re going to try: once a week, we’ll make a post calling for submissions in the comments. You can nominate your own work or someone else’s. We may change this guideline in the future, but for now we have no preference regarding this.

Sometimes an author will submit and wonder why their work doesn’t get curated. While we won’t comment on work nominated by a second party, we would be willing to discuss our process with the actual authors who may have questions about it. Our decision to not curate might be based on a simple thing, like formatting errors or typos that could be easily remedied. So, if authors who submit would like to be notified of such things in order to qualify for curation, please make a note of this in your comment. For example: “I’d like to submit my short story, I Sure Hope You Curate This, found at (link.) I’m open to suggestions about any editing I can do to make this or future posts eligible.”

At that point, we’ll reply with any issues holding it back from curation. We are professionals. We don’t do insults. We will state a clear, factual reason for our decision. However, we will not offer actual critique or review in this forum. That's available to all fiction authors at the Fiction Workshop on the PALnet MSP Discord. Again, any dialogue of this nature--however brief--will only be held with the actual author of the post, not with a second party submitting the work of another.

Do we expect to be flooded with submissions? No. Not at first. Our strategy is so different from other curation trails at Steemit that many people will choose to watch for a while to see if it works. We understand this. But we do want to make a process available through which other authors and readers can bring fiction to our attention that we may not see otherwise. We’ll watch the comments of this post until Thursday, two days before curation. At that point, we’ll consider comments to be closed. We will also not regard any comments made on curation posts or other posts we might make during the week.

Here are our simple guidelines for submission:

  1. Link required
  2. Must be FICTION—not memoir or news
  3. Must be a new post, so that curated works can benefit from exposure the following SATURDAY before it’s locked down on the blockchain.
  4. Must be free of formatting, grammar, syntax, or spelling issues
  5. Indicate if this is YOUR WORK or the work of another author on whose behalf you submit
  6. If the submission is part of a longer work, like a novel or series, it must be the FIRST CHAPTER or installment.
  7. F4F, “please upvote me,” or bot comments will be FLAGGED INTO OBLIVION. You were warned.
  8. NO NSFW

We look forward to seeing your submissions!

I read a good one today with a twist that made me smile in the fiction category

I agree with you on this one. Do you know @sazbird? I will be watching for more fiction from this person. This one was posted at a bad time to curate, but your tip to check this post out has been passed on to others on the team. We're interested. Thank you!

Hello! I used to curate for the fiction-trail and stubbled upon her through that. Her and naquoya are ones that I continue to keep an eye on for their great writing!

I left some comments on a couple of her posts. Maybe she'll reply. :-)

Excellent. I love a bit of encouragement for the fiction writers. There are some great stories out there on here!

I would very much like to nominate @Gmuxx for his story Troll Tears (https://steemit.com/nanomancer/@gmuxx/nanomancer-creative-writing-competition-entry-troll-tears). It may have been written as a contest entry, but I believe it transcends the bounds of the contest and is more than worthy of being included in the @sft curation trail.

Agreed 100%, @bex-dk

Thank you, I am humbled.
