May I suggest a contrarion opinion - that the direction of growth in the freedom of the human spirit lies in leaving cities behind?
Contrarian positions always most welcome on my blog :)
Not a big fan of cities here as well. However, I think it has net positive effects. The only problems are proper planning and as usual, taxation for state cities, which is always difficult to justify. Anyway, if one is able to pick up everyone in this world and distribute them uniformly across the surface of the Earth, congregations will still happen like how human attention is a zipf distribution - there are millions of words in English, but only 100 words end up being used in 90% of English literature.
Suddenly im reminded of a crypto project - hermicity - cities, decentralized haha.. its pretty interesting although i wasnt sure if the author was joking or not..
