Hi @daveks - I'm going to be brutally honest here. I've stopped curating the photography tag because it's rare to find anyone using best practices! Case in point - your list. Every single one of them includes fantastic photos. Of the 10 listed, only 1 person took us on a journey using photos and text. Thank you @cognoscere. @pcste walked us through his setup and trudge through the rain. The rest of them?
Well... Let's just ask ourselves: if you took their photos away, what are we left with? 8 out of 10 on the list gave us nothing, except maybe what camera they used.
Would you agree that curating responsibly should include having a minimum expectancy for basic best practices from our photographers and artists? This may be the reason why they're not getting the views or support. Consider looking at my blog about best practices for newbie artists - it is definitely appropriate to photographers and you'll see within the comments that some steem trail curators agree.
Thanks for your comment and feedback @merej99! Curating in my opinion is a very subjective activity. Obviously some on my list deserved a higher payout then others. Here on Steemit there seems to be photography/nature posts that earn too little and some that earn too much (way too much!). If you compare @cognoscere's post with @unipsycho's post for example, I believe his should be worth between $20-$50 as he obviously took a lot of time and effort, contrast that with @unipscho's more minimal 1 picture post for the steemitphotochallenge, a very unique photo of a unicycle in a mountain setting. I would value it between $2-$10 as I have a particular interest in mountains/hiking, and that photo is beautiful just as it is without a long story attached (and sometimes I don't have time to read a long post anyway). If in fact there was a detailed story attached, I would value it then much higher! Anyways, thanks again for your feedback!
Whoops, let me correct myself. Make that 7 out of 10. I actually started following @boddhisattva because he had some great text and back links to support his photographs. :)
