My European Adventure: Part 2: Sacrifice and The Beaches of Normandy.
Image property of @seangold
Just when you thought the activities commemorating the 11/11 Armistice centenary have all been put to bed for the year, Sean presents us this piece about his evocative adventure to the Beaches of Normandy. Filled with historical facts, brought to live by the carefully composed images, this post honours the young men tasked with the nearly impossible challenge to push back the spread of the Nazis by capturing Pointe du Hoc.
"Though, it came at great cost. Of the original 225 Rangers that came ashore, only 100 men were still capable of fighting by the next morning, while they endured Nazi counter attacks. And when reinforcements finally reached them, there would be only 75.
"These are but a sliver of the acts of heroics, bravery, courage and sacrifice, which against all odds, captured Pointe du Hoc, and made the D-Day invasion more than possible, but inevitable." — @seangold

How to Construct Scenes in Your Story Using Plus & Minus Formula
Image taken from @shanedustin's post
Writer, Shane Dustin presents an interesting perspective on constructing "colourful, pictorial" scenes for your story.
"Humanity’s first form of written story telling were drawn pictures on cave walls," the author argues, thus man's natural pull towards graphically told stories, with words chosen to "transmit drama in scene form."
Shane's simple "pluses and minuses formular" to achieving the above is presented in this article, in a very practical approach that references ancient classics and employs the author's invention. If you are a storyteller of any form, this may hold some value for you.

Now this next one is pure class! I can't stop playing this groovy, upbeat record from "The Fruits." San Francisco sure did brighten my day, and I am sure it will yours.
Drew's band, The Fruits "is a Detroit-based band that is all about having fun, creating upbeat music, and making sure you feel a little silly when we're in the same room." San Francisco is their first music video and it is beautiful, modern, funky and fitting for the record.

Can a philosopher become a great filmmaker? The case of Terrence Malick
Image taken from @matute8029's post
Matute draws links from his personal journey as a scriptwriter and philosopher as he reviews the cinematography of Philosopher Terrence Malick.
The author asks the questions, "Can you philosophize in the cinema, through the cinema, with the cinema? Can a philosopher-filmmaker use images as a language to issue messages of philosophical rank?" He sets the tone by establishing the rarity of a filmmaker philosophizing through images, before delving into the core of the article: analysing the "third case" — Terrence Malick.
"There is no other way to write about Malick's cinema. And there is no literary or critical experience that can replace the vision of his works, which you love or hate immediately, without mediation." — @matute8029
