WISE SAYING
In Yoruba: Bi a gun'yan ninu epo epa, bi a roka ninu korofo ishana, eniti aayo aayo
Literal Translation: If we pound yam inside a groundnut shell, and if we prepare Amala (a Yoruba delicacy) inside matchbox, those who will eat their fill will still eat their fill.
USAGE
This saying speaks to us about maximizing every little opportunity we have by making the most out of it. No matter how scarce the resources, the person that will have excess will still have excess.
FURTHER EXPLANATION
Amala and pounded yam are two common Yoruba delicacies (see image below). Amala is prepared by steering yam flour in a big pot of boiling water till it solidifies, while pounded yam is prepared by pounding yam into a fine mould using mortar and pestle. Both are eaten with soup of choice. The shell of groundnut and matchbox depicts the quantity of food available.
There is continual need to always lookout for opportunities around, because as some folks are complaining about scarcity and hard economy, others are experiencing booming businesses, building houses, buying cars and breaking new grounds. So rather than complain, we should always strive to make the most of what life hands us. Stay motivated!!!
