Reog Ponorogo Culture Original Indonesia Reog Ponorogo is one of the cultural arts that originated East Java. Why is it called Ponorogo? Yes, this art comes from Ponorogo, East Java. A brief history about reog ponorogo

Reog is one of the typical regional culture found in Indonesia and still very strong also with a variety of things that still smells mysticism and psychotherapy of a strong reog play. The history of reog ponorogo began when the 1920s.

Actually there are five kinds of famous story version of the origin of reog and warok this. The most famous story is about the rebellion of Ki Ageng Kutu who was a royal servant when the time of Bhre Kertabhumi, was the last king of Majapahit kingdom, which came to power in the 15th century. 1.Jathil

Jathil is a horse-riding warrior and is one of the figures in the art of Reog. Jathilan is a dance depicting the dexterity of horsemen who are practicing on horses. This dance is performed by the dancers where the dancers with each other pair up. Dexterity and expertise in battle on a horse is shown by the dancer's expression or greget.

Jathilan is initially danced by a man who is smooth, handsome or similar to a beautiful woman. Her dance movements were more likely to be feminine. Since the 1980s when the Reog Ponorogo art team was about to be sent to Jakarta for the opening of PRJ (Jakarta Fair), jathilan dancers were replaced by dancers for the more feminine reasons. The characteristics of Jathilan dance in the art of Reog Ponorogo are more likely to be smooth, agile, flirtatious. This is supported by the rhythmic pattern of dance motion that alternates between the iramamlaku (lugu) and the iramangracik.

2.Warok

"Warok" derived from the word wewarah is a person who has the determination of holy, giving guidance and protection without selfless. Warok is wong kang sugih wewarah (a person who is rich in wewarah). That is, a person becomes a war because it is able to give guidance or teaching to others about a good life. Wokok iku wong kang wus purna saka sakabehing behavior, lan wus menep ing sense (Warok is the perfect person in the behavior of his life, and came to deposition of the inner).

Warok is a character / characteristic and soul of the Ponorogo people who have ingrained since the ancestors inherited by the ancestors to the next generation. Warok is part of the art of Reog art that is inseparable with the other in the art unit Reog Ponorogo. Warok is a person who really mastered both inner and outer science.

3.Barongan (Dadak peacock)

Barongan (Dadak peacock) is the most dominant dance equipment in Reog Ponorogo art. The parts include; Tiger head (caplokan), made of wood framework, bamboo, rattan covered with tiger skin Gembong. 4.Klono Sewandono

Klono Sewandono or King Kelono is a powerful monarch Mandraguna who has a heirloom of Cemeti very powerful with the title Kyai Pukul Samandiman wherever go the king who is handsome and still young is always carrying the heritage. The heirloom is used to protect itself. The King's kingship is portrayed in a vigorous and authoritative dance movement, in a story of King Klono Sewandono succeeding in creating a beautiful arts resulted from his creativity to obey the request of the Princess (her lover). Because the King is in a drunken state of romance the tarinyapun movement sometimes portrays a person who is in love.

5.Bujang Ganong (Ganongan)

Bujang Ganong (Ganongan) or Patih Pujangga Anom is one of the energetic character, kocaksekaligus have expertise in martial arts dirisehingga in every appearance is always in wait - wait by the audience, especially children. Bujang Ganong describes the figure of a skilled Young Patih, strong-willed, clever, witty and powerful.
