Going to Malaysia? Or Singapore?

If you have been to Malaysia and Singapore, you will notice the English that has been used by the locals are somewhat localized and strange. I would not blame you if you were to misinterpreted or simply did not understand the whole sentence of Malaysian-English(Manglish) or Singaporean English (Singlish).

These two dialects, however, have different influenced. ‘Singlish’ was influenced by Hokkien Chinese verbs while Manglish was influenced by Cantonese Chinese verbs so it is different in a way. Both Malaysian and Singaporean people are multicultural so this is unavoidable. If you find it funny in a certain way, trust me, we find it normal.

Today however, I want to introduce to you Manglish- my country localized English. Expression is both mixed in local word. Malaysia’s majority ethnics in sequence are Malays, Chinese and Indian. All these ethnicities play part in Manglish phrases and words.

Don’t bother to be formalize with us Malaysian unless you are in the formal setting. We are deep down straight forward and use simple phrases. ‘ahh’ and ‘lah’ at the end of phrases does not mean a thing, the only thing it meant is it is used by Malaysian.

Let me give an example:

No it is not = Where got?
No = No ahh (over expression)
Yes you can = Can ahh
Can you make it quick? = Faster!
Are you sure? : Sure not? or sure meh?

This is a video of Manglish. I found it so funny to be put this way. Yet this is truly downtown Malaysian.

Please understand that some expressions does not mean what as what it spelled out. Like ‘havent die yet?’, it is just to express that ‘long time no see’ expression. LOL

Dictionary for the video: ^_^
Minum=drink
Potong: cut
Pokai = broke
Kena= caught
Pancit =flat tire

Manglish meme ^_^

Come on, come to SouthEast Asia where the sun shines shinier than the rest!
