Brief reflection: Hierarchy, Apology of the West

in #culture6 years ago (edited)

What distinguishes human society from animals is that it evolves and changes over time, changes for better or for worse, but changes. Whether through its successes or failures, it is not a stationary society. What is striking about this is that not all societies evolve in a homogeneous way, that is, not all societies do so in the same way and with the same degree of development. Human societies are divided into groups and these at the same time into sub-groups, each of these groups representing a different culture with its own patterns of behavior, tastes, worldviews, among others.

With the new ideological postulates of the 20th century such as neo-Marxism or cultural Marxism, new paradigms have been created, such as third wave feminism, LGBTQI pride, or "multiculturalism": whose postulates propose the peaceful coexistence of different cultures in the same space - regardless of whether there are contradictions between them - and cultural equality. Nonetheless, are all cultures really the same?

As painful as it is to admit, culture has hierarchies. Classical Greek culture was superior to any other culture for its time in most matters, not for nothing is Greek culture is seen as the pillar of civilization. The Greeks themselves were aware of their superiority in every aspect and therefore considered other peoples - cultures - barbarians. The Romans were clearly superior in terms of civilization, religion, government, and society than the barbarians of the north. The Spaniards were superior to the indigenous tribes that could have been found at the time of colonization - though not in all aspects, they were. The same pattern is repeated today, in the same way, today when we talk about different cultures, even if it hurts to recognize it.

It is well known that Western culture is not perfect, but it is the best-known culture in the history of humanity so far and the one that has contributed most to the world. In comparison with other cultures in terms of individual freedoms, economic prosperity, intellectual advances, technological advances, arts and medicine, and tolerance.

Today, however, multiculturalism seriously threatens the principles and foundations of Western civilization. The idea that all cultures and all forms of life are equivalent to each other is a premise that greatly eliminates the concept of value on which culture rests. In the past, economic and social equality were demanded; today, equality extends to gender, sexual orientation to cultural equality, which progressive ideologues and minority groups want to impose on society in good or bad ways.

Many detractors of Western society - many of them Western-born - claim and denounce the intolerance of this culture (western) towards others, but is it really intolerant? The answer is a resounding no. The West is so tolerant that allows minority movements such as feminism and multiculturalism to try to tear it down. There is no other place on earth where homosexuals have gained so much privilege and so much social acceptance, no other place in the world where women have so many freedoms, benefits and are not subject to patriarchal societies like the East, no culture that has as much religious and ethnic diversity as the West itself. One only has to look to the East itself to see if this kind of privileges and tolerances are given in these cultures, perhaps Russia, India, China or Saudi Arabia will be more tolerant? Not even close.

Isn't it better to live in Europe than anywhere else in the world? The empirical evidence proves it. It is not for nothing that the largest annual migration flow is directed to Western countries. The Turks emigrated to Germany instead of Saudi Arabia for a reason. A Moroccan would rather go to Spain than Algeria. Those who want to compare Western culture with that of any other culture or even claim that the western culture is equal to other cultures are just simply cognitive dissonants.

But what does it mean to be Western? The West is an ideal. It is not only a stationary place in the world, it is a community of concepts and moral and ethical values that are not present in other civilizations. Protestant, Judaeo-Christian, Greco-Latin values, that's the West. Being Western is not about nationalities, nor about skin colors. It's about ideas, and that's what cultural Marxists don't understand. Anyone who questions Western values and morals, even if born in the West, is rejecting the culture that has brought most development to the world, and must, therefore, be considered an outsider. Western civilization was born in Europe, but it is not its only and exclusive heritage. We have countries that have contributed to the development of Western ideas, such as the United States, Australia, Canada, even Venezuela or Argentina. Any nation, even one located in the East, can be considered Western as long as it is based on these ideals.

Being Western is about mentality, about defending freedom, human rights, the separation of powers, based on education. And while fascism, Nazism, and communism are creations born in the West, it does not mean that they were explicitly Western since they were radically opposed to all Western values, they clash head-on with the spirit of freedom promoted by the American Revolution.

And without graces of despising and offending any other culture, one can recognize how fascinating they are and that each one of them has valuable elements. But the progress and contributions that the West itself has brought to the world are unquestionable. Some of these contributions are:

Capitalism: There is much talk about the economic development that some Asian countries have been experiencing in recent decades, but if it had not been for the policies of their rulers - educated in the West and with Western principles - they would still be an economically devastated society. Capitalism is the best way to create wealth in the world and it is thanks to capitalism and its Protestant ethic that many countries have been able to emerge from the misery and economic meltdown.

Science: Modern science was not only born in the West, but the very concept of science is proper to our civilization. It is so old and so typical of us that we can find references in the works of Aristotle and in the Bible. It was on this side of the world that the era of inventions and the industrial revolution took place. We cannot forget either that the Middle Ages was a time of great technological advances, read "The Industrial Revolution In The Middle Ages by Jean Gimpel.

Universities: The universities were born in the medieval West, as an initiative of the Catholic Church. According to Charles Homer Haskins, a medievalist researcher, universities emerged in medieval monasteries with monks as professors. Unfortunately, today universities are the antipode of what they were in the Middle Ages, from centers of knowledge to centers of Marxist propaganda and indoctrination, a place where Western anti-values are promoted.

Philosophy: Philosophy was born in Ancient Greece and gave us three great masters: Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Greek philosophy has been the main tool that has helped subsequent generations to progress.

And now to finish this brief reflection I leave you with a video that simplifies everything established in the post about the culture that so much despises cultural Marxism.
