🗞 One Year Later, What’s Holding Back SegWit Adoption on Bitcoin?

It’s been over a year since the scaling upgrade known as segregated witness, or SegWit, was activated on the bitcoin network.

Even so, only an estimated 36 percent of all bitcoin transactions are actually using it.

Why the minimal adoption rate? It’s largely because, like any backward-compatible upgrade (otherwise called a soft fork), SegWit ensures participants in the bitcoin network that haven’t upgraded to the same software can still follow the same network only under a slightly less-restricted ruleset.

But, in an effort to speed up this process of adoption, Lasher and other BRD executives launched a website last September titled “WhenSegwit” featuring “an open letter to those who love bitcoin.”

In the letter, they pleaded with both business and users to prioritize SegWit-optimized services and “get SegWit to 100 percent” adoption.

🗞 Brave Set To Start Rewarding Users For Viewing Advertisements

As of January 15, users of the developer version of the Brave browser can opt in to see advertisements. The ability to earn Brave's native Basic Attention Token (BAT) will be added in "several weeks," Brave said on its beta channel. The select ad-viewing users will then earn 70 percent of the revenue share paid by participating advertisers.

Brave revealed it is working with a number of advertising networks and brands to test the functionality, including BuySellAds, TAP Network, AirSwap, Fluidity, and Uphold. Ads from Brave's system will then be fully integrated in Brave 1.0, the desktop browser for MacOS, Windows, and Linux, and its Android app, on its launch. The iOS version is not yet available.

🗞 Bitpay Reports Processing Over $1 Billion Transactions in 2018

Popular cryptocurrency payment processor Bitpay has released figures showing that the company maintained strong performance during 2018, despite the downturn in the market. For example, while other ventures had to downsize recently, Bitpay’s staff increased by 78 percent from the previous year.

Bitpay has announced strong performance for the payment processing platform in 2018, after more than seven years in operation. During the year, the service reportedly processed over a $1 billion in payments for a second year and set a new record for transaction fee revenue by adding new customers. The company’s B2B operation also reportedly had a record year as it grew almost 255 percent from the previous year.

🗞 Trezor and Gray Release Corazon Series ‘Luxury’ Hardware Wallets

On Jan. 16, hardware wallet manufacturer Satoshilabs, the creator of the Trezor line of cryptocurrency devices, announced its latest partnership with the mechanical artistry and design company Gray. The luxury designer is well known for its mobile collections like Zyra and Alter Ego and the two companies have now released a “luxury” aerospace-grade titanium hardware wallet series called Corazon.

🗞 Binance Freezes ‘Some’ Tokens Stolen From Cryptopia: CEO CZ

Major Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has frozen tokens sent to its wallet by the entity who allegedly hacked New Zealand exchange Cryptopia, CEO Changpeng Zhao reported in a tweet Jan. 16.

Cryptopia, which is currently shut down as police investigate the hack, lost at least $3.6 million in cryptocurrency, sources reported.

Zhao subsequently said staff had been quarantining the tokens, which appeared to arrive in several batches: 31,320 Metal (MTL) worth $7,830 to press time, and 49,766 KyberNetwork (KNC) tokens, with a value of $6,867 to press time.

What a nice surprise for the STEEM. The BTC is in consolidating phase but the STEEM is doing a nice UP to try to break the resistance line at 0.31$ and so go out also from this trading canal which is blocking us since weeks now. This first test is a fail but we should at least try to break that line a second time. Go Go Go

The freeze of some tokens stolen from Cryptopia was amazing. But I need to say... The hackers are really dumb to think they can get some tokens stolen from one exchange and deposit in another.

Agreed, they should have exhanged it as soon as they stole it against some Anonymous tokens Don't you think?
Thank you for passing by

For sure...
Like, if I am some hacker like that, the first thing that I do is P2P with some another crypto, trying to avoid any kind of trail.
