Yeah, for a long time it was considered uncrackable and can only be done by brute-force frequency analysis, hence can be done by computers. I think that if the keyword is longer than the message it remains uncrackable, eg. use the first paragraph from a book as the keyword.

But how did it work before they had computers, then? And is it now crackable without a computer? (probably silly questions, but my brain is fried at the moment, lol)
