Tykn | Project Overview

in #cryptocurrency5 years ago (edited)

Tykn is an envisioned movement attacking the multi-headed “identity crisis” problem from multiple angles. It provides value to people affected and those distributing aid at the coalface, by increasing identifiability whilst mitigating cost, time and frustration factors of NGOs and governments. Tykn seeks to optimize the remedy engine and fix the creaking infrastructure of humanitarian agencies and NGOs globally, effectively allowing more people to be helped, by enabling those with more dominion and influence to empower those made vulnerable by disasters.

The Origin of Tykn.

Tey Al Rjula discovered himself as an invisible man in 2012 where his Dutch driver’s license was not reflecting his birth Credentials. He literally became an unknown person. He was born in Kuwait and during the gulf war, the birth registries were destroyed. Due to this fact, he does not have a birth certificate, and even though copies of it were to exist, neither he nor the issuing authority could possibly verify it.

He began his asylum application in a refugee camp in the Netherlands in 2014 where he was compelled to move after the termination of his 5year work permit. While at the Syrian Camp for 2 years, he felt the pain of thousands of Syrian refugees who were unable to verify the authenticity of their documents. In addition to this, many of these refugees had lost other vital documents such as land titles and academic certificates on the road of refuge. At the conclusion of his stay, he had met more than 1000 invisible men, women, and children. Tey was inspired to found Tykn because of the hardships that he shared with thousands of refugees in the Syrian Camp.

Introduction to Ana

Ana is defined as a distributed digital identity management system for governments and NGOs that are providing humanitarian aid, for whom it comprises higher-order applications for aid distribution, greater project-level metrics and the identification of beneficiaries.

Though Ana, the Aid-providing organizations possess a more efficient way of registering and identifying people in need within one interoperable system, leading to a significant reduction in the need for duplication of registrations. The logic behind it is that when an individual Is registered for a specific programme through one, for instance, the NLRC, the beneficiary with an Ana ID does not have to re-register for another programme or organization.

Applications

  • NGOs - Tykn is empowering NGOs in expediting aid distribution with Ana

  • Governments - Renders GDPR-compliant identification and authentication systems

  • Health Care - Provides private, secure and interoperable systems

The Project ZINC

Project Zero Invisible Children (ZINC) is focused at permanently certifying the identity of children in conflict zones by leveraging blockchain technology.

Project Progress

In 2016, Tykn won the Start weekend Utrecht, which is an intensive 3-day hackathon powered by Google. The team managed to develop a working prototype to digitally verify and authenticate official documents by leveraging the Bitcoin Blockchain. Courtesy of this victory, Tykn was chosen to pitch for Rockstart accelerator based in Amsterdam through which Tykn was selected out of 1100+ applicants (alongside 9 other startups) to join the Rockstart Web & Mobile Accelerator.

Tykn was Selected among 1100+ Applicants to Join Accelerator

Following the winning of the Startup Weekend Utrecht in November 2016, Tykn, along with 9 other startups, was selected to partake in Rockstart’s Web & Mobile Accelerator programme out of 1100+ applicants in 2017. Tykn had a rich experience at Rockstart as it accelerated the project.

Tykn participated in the Blockchain Future Trust Summit at the Hall of Knights in the Hague.

The Tykn team was invited amongst other stakeholders on September 28, to co-create with the challenge owners of the Blockchain for a good ecosystem. Tey El-Rjula (CEO) and Jimmy J.P. Snoek (Business Development Lead) represented the Tykn vision on the future of resilient identities. During the event, they met up with HRH Prince Constantijn of Orange-Nissau, and jointly expressed the urgent situation in Saint Martin where the Tykn solutions were by then much more needed to build a resilient identity management system leveraging Blockchain technology. He paired them with the Red Cross team who are now collaborating on an ambitious plan since the Q1 of this year.

Tykn Became a Founding Steward of the Sovrin Network.

The Sovrin Foundation unanimously voted Tykn into the Sovrin Trust Framework as a Founding Steward of the Sovrin Network and since then the team has been working closely on the development of the network and along with it is the inevitable future of self-sovereign identity.
