Ledger increases production to deliver over one million units this year.

I've ordered my Ledger Nano S in the beginning of June. When I ordered it, their website stated that it would be shipped in two weeks. Well... I think we can all say that around that time we were seeing a huge increase in crypto investors. Exchanges and brokers were having a really hard time handling all new requests for accounts, support tickets and tier verification requests. And I quickly found out that Ledger was noticing the effects of that because they have had a huge increase in sales as well. I found out shipment of my Ledger was delayed and it's planned to be shipped in the first week of July.

About two weeks ago I had a chat with one of the co-founders of Ledger because of an issue with my order status page and he told me two things:

1: That they had a big batch of 2 times 30000 Nano S coming out of the production line, which should allow them to ship orders sooner than announced on the website. These were for all open orders up until June.

2: They've ordered enough components to be able to manufacture 1 million units this year alone. Now I don't know their regular production numbers but 1 million units expected to be sold in the last half of 2017 is a lot.

Overall we can pretty much say that we're reaching new heights when it comes to participation/investing in cryptocurrency/blockchains. The user base is growing faster than ever before.

We can also assume the following:

  • Ledgers will be mainly used by people who hold for long term instead of short trading.
  • Ledger users mostly start with Bitcoin and/or Ethereum so those cryptos will get sold.
  • The Ledger Nano S also supports Ethereum Classic, Ripple, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Zcash (z-addresses are not supported), Dash and Stratis. So we can also assume that Ledger users will invest in a few of these cryptos as well.

I think it's good news that we can welcome more and more investors/users, it will make things even more interesting. I'm hoping those million new users will get invested in Stratis and Ripple as well.

Hopefully my Ledger Nano S will arrive a bit sooner than expected so I can safely store my cryptos away.

All the best. Keep us posted.

I would love Steem to be on the ledger nano S. I outilned how it could work but didn't get enough interest from Steemians. I might work on it at some point this summer.

They support a few cryptos but not enough. I think that when Ledger adds a new one, that will create a positive wave for that crypto it shows Ledger is effectively backing that specific crypto.

Steem is one that is here to stay for a long time. I'm looking forward to reading how you think that would work for Ledger.

Any idea/ feedback is appreciated. I need to take a look at their
Pgp app to see if it can help me.

Very interesting matter. Though technically it goes over my head as I'm not a developer. I like to stay on conceptual levels.

I always wondered though what makes Ledger decide to develop the software to support a crypto on their hardware wallets. They must have a set of 'rules' a crypto has to comply with.

we could pay to make them do. I recall it was about 60K€.
On conceptual level, I wanted to propose something that doesn't require to plug the nano all the time (this means no security in a sense) and still have the main secret offline.

I am keeping an eye on the matter ^^

Sounds good. Now... if only my Ledger would arrive...
