The Curious Case of PACcoin $PACsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago

So I hate PACcoin. To me PACcoin represents everything that annoys my “GEN-x ass” in this crypto world. Very recently I could not go anywhere in this space without some drone shilling me on this coin with absolutely nothing but buzzwords. I would be in an exchange shoutbox hearing “bro 1000x PAC rocket lambo moon pluto etc”. I would see the same in youtube streams, reddit, 4chan, telegram twitter etc you the picture.

So yeah obviously my GEN-x response was “Get away from me with this PUMPcoin / SHITcoin / MEMEcoin / KEKcoin / SCAMcoin or whatever” and I would react in fury and try and ignore the NOISE that was coming out of this coin. But the more it kept coming up, the more I found myself engaged with these trolls and it bothered me until I realized something and asked myself: Stop feeding these trolls that keep multiplying and find the source of this madness!

So finally I came to terms with my hate and decided to investigate this magic coin that has incited so much reaction in me. As I have quickly had to realize in this space is that hype can sometimes be more valuable than fundamentals when it comes right down to investing. I mean let’s face it, there are “investors” that are my son’s age (12) that have signed onto an exchange that just needs an email and started buying some of this crap. Some of this crap has vastly outperformed my so called “sound fundamental investments”. So either my dinosaur old school brain adapts or I’m extinct. So my strategy is to figure out what the hell happened here with PACcoin. I hope I find something in my investigation that somehow I’ll figure out what the next PAC TRX or XVG will be. To be honest though, I’m not sure I’ll be able to for the very fact that I am a dinosaur in this space and maybe I’m missing some channel of information. So I am please begging anyone that happens to read this: PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND!

Let me start with a reddit post from January:
I am in the same position here. I made a very small investment purely out of speculation, but what the hell is going on with this coin? I've looked all over the website, twitter feed, reddit pages, and I still have no idea what this coin is even supposed to do. There is no team information at all, no whitepaper, no roadmap, nothing? Am I missing something here, or can someone please explain the point of this coin?

I saw this over and over where somebody just bought in without any clue to what the coin actually is. This video (start around 4:00) the author also admits the same.

So how do I get inside the mind of a millennial or an Igenerational? Do I need to eat a Tide Pod? The truth is I have no idea so just going to see what I can uncover…

  1. It’s an old coin that’s been rebranded – looking back on old 2013 bitcointalk thread we see that there was nothing special and if anything, folks at first were unimpressed. The founder seems a little odd and the logo is ugly. Nothing to see here.

  2. “Cheapest” to buy and has Dogecoin pairing – Ok so this is both sickening and interesting. While I was “wasting time” trying to study a whitepaper apparently $PAC mooned in the summer of ’17 just because: A) The “cheapest” coin to buy meaning for $100 you could have millions B) Dogecoin pairing meant that the large Doge community could easily trade into this cheap coin. Yes I know this sounds crazy but from combing through old BCT posts (reddit & 4chan difficult to time stamp search) reveals exactly this. A generous POS & masternode helped as did an idealistic simple whitepaper, but there was some weird organic movement in volume before the new Dev takeover.

  3. Fast forward to Oct-17 & we see a new Dev Team overtook the coin – So before we even do any further digging we know already the timing was perfect at this point. We can see that the new team were using smart marketing tactics:

Of course folks like JR Business bought this coin:

  1. Cryptopia Crash & CMC glitch - PAC caused its main exchange (Cryptopia) to crash. CoinMarketCap erroneously shows $PAC as the third largest marketcap right after Etherium because of a mixup in supply.

My hopes of truly finding out what happened here still seem to elude me. Somehow this coin hypnotized people into becoming an echo chamber of pure shill. A brainwashed mass hysteria that makes me think of paid fake accounts, bots and the like. Many of the people I dug into on different forums only ever posted about paccoin which suggests some kind of chicanery but that doesn’t explain the sheer number of drones I saw. Please somebody take pity on my poor soul and reveal the mystery! Comment below.

In summary my findings for the magic fairy dust that $PAC had are in order:

1)Grassroots community movement based on a DOGE pairing with a crazy “cheap” price & POS/Masternode attraction

  1. Perfect market timing with new developers and marketing team resulted in insane gains that caused mania public awareness from CMC glitch & breaking Cryptopia
  2. I think its reckless and unwarranted to use a word like scam (I will in fact post this report over to the $PAC reddit and ask for a response) but there just seems like there’s something more to this. Many of the users who I clicked on in Reddit and BCT only posted on $PAC threads and nothing else which suggests a dummy account. This is glaring especially on reddit where a user can talk about any other topic in the world. But believe me nothing would make me happier than finding another reason why this mania occurred so I hope I will gleam something from the group there. But as for now I still hate Paccoin.

My first posting, I have no idea why it starts repeating after the end. Besides feedback I'd like to know how to format as well :)

This is your 1st post? Well, congratulations on a very good start! Really, never mind the little error at the tail-side, everything else is really good in my humble opinion. This is just what we need: people who bring back some sanity in this crazy crypto-zoo. And take the time to do so; I can appreciate the effort it took to make this post as well as the content. Furthermore: your grasp of the English language appears to be above average at least, paragraphs are in their right places, no use of excessive formatting, meaningful illustrations and external links.

Unfortunately I don't know of a way to see the source-code for your post, so I cannot comment on the weird repetition at the end, other than not to worry about it too much ;-)

I also just started here on Steemit and I know how hard it can be to gain some traction and get your posts noticed. At least, I struggle with this, so maybe we can help each other out a bit. I wrote an article about this very subject in relation to the lack of trust this ICO-phenomenon creates in crypto-space, and how it hinders mass-adoption of crypto-currencies: Who Do You Trust? Full Disclosure!. I would be very grateful if you have a chance to leave a comment there with your honest opinion and maybe some tips on how I can make my writing better; English is not my native language.

I followed you to see if more good articles like this one come from your hand and resteem them to: hope you get some more viewers this way.

Thanks again for an entertaining article!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply. I will certainly take a look at what you wrote and comment. You are right that it is time consuming to research some of these topics and real information is hard to dig out of all the disinformation and/or fluff. I have followed you and will get back to you later today .
