The virtual reality game Oasis in Ernest Cline's Ready Player One is the type of future world that fuels the dreams of crypto investors everywhere. Wade Watts never had much more than his school-issued visor and haptic gloves but when he learns about Halliday's quest he becomes obsessed with solving the clues and claiming the treasure.

Watts, also known by his avatar name Parzivel becomes an egg hunter or "Gunter" and along with pretty much everybody else in the world he dedicates all of his time to searching for Halliday's egg. Along the way, he has run in's with the giant supercorporation IOI, tests his friendships and learns to fight for what he believes.

Ready Player One is for every video gamer, movie buff, science fiction fan and general lover of all things internet. Themes in this book touch on the issues that we care about today such as net-neutrality, cryptocurrency, and a decentralized society. The Oasis is a utopia where anybody can become anything that they want to be and yet also a cautionary tale about the decline of human civilization and the potential destruction of our planet.

I picked up Ready Player One after Casey Neistat suggested it on his YouTube channel. Stephen Spielberg is directing the film which will be released in 2018 so now is definitely time to read this book. The audiobook version is narrated by Will Wheaton who does an absolutely fabulous job. Go ahead and give it listen when you count your coins and dream about your future millions.
