In this generation, it is of immense importance for an individual to possess some form of personal documentation for the reason that confirming one's identity is essential for a wide range of basic entitlements such as contracting marriage, entering educational institutions, obtaining employment, opening up a bank account and many more. This clarifies why most of the countries are issuing national identity cards to their citizens and resident permits to the migrants. However, when everybody else is enjoying the prerequisite services, there are certain groups of people called "refugees" that are constrained since they have no identity documents, which is far more than a source of inconvenience. Tykn, a technology-agnostic company, has joined the blockchain sphere to spearhead the solution by providing a platform for digital identity management for the refugees.

What is Tykn ?

It is a movement that is leveraging blockchain technology for the building of reliable, confidential and interoperable electronic identity that is authentic. The name tykn comes from a pigeon that was named "tyke" that contributed to the survival of the ditched aircrew during World War II by way of delivering messages. At the same time, the name also means "supreme authority'' in Japanese. Tykn was conceived in 2016 by three enthusiastic men Khalid Maliki, Jimmy."J.P" Snoek and Tey Al Rjula who want to solve the hardships that "invisible people" go through.

The nuts and bolts of Tykn.

Tykn is using a white-label management system that encompasses higher-order applications for aid distribution, as well as for the identification of beneficiaries, so this system is named ANA. Tykn has realistic applications in the lives of the refugees.

  1. Compliant identity and documentation registration.
Currently, the government is issuing paper-based identity documents which are intensely centralized so, in case of natural disasters such as earthquakes or hurricanes, a boatload of people lose their official documents and getting them replaced takes a lot of time and money. On the other hand, the government and other global-aided agencies find it a hurdle to identify the affected people when disaster strikes. Tykn is using their blockchain-based platform, Ana, to solve this complication by registering legal documents for example birth certificates, academic transcripts, passports, driving permits, etc on an indelible system. In addition, it is also issuing Ana IDs for easy identifications.

  2. Empowering NGO's in hastening aid distribution.
NGO's lose exorbitant amounts of money in every aid campaign. Given that they are required by law to destroy all data amassed during a campaign, this does not only affect the NGO's but also the impacted individuals since they have to queue up for hours to be identified consequently, slowing down aid allocation. Ana is putting this issue to bed by allowing an exchange of identification data among the collaborating NGOs. Over and above, Tykn is also working on allowing automated expedition of aid in the form of conditional cash transfer programs.

  3. Tykn workshops.
Tykn is taking it upon itself to enlighten the public about how the blockchain technology operates, and it is offering eight different topics, i.e blockchain education, financial, legal, tech, social, humanitarian, blockchain project management, and sovrin. These workshops are carried out to inspirit the public to develop modern software on blockchain.

Conclusion

Refugees go through rough patches, and it all comes from the lack of identity documents. Woefully they also cannot attain professional jobs despite having the academic qualifications. So Tykn is lessening the suffering with its innovative strategy that is backed by a stellar team with hands-on experience in operating in affected areas. Furthermore, Tykn is partnering with several blockchain projects and NGO's to offer an ultra-modern experience to the refugees.

As a side note, Tykn is attending the blockchain event organized by the University of Nicosia in Athens, Greece, and it is taking place on 14-16 November. The C.E.O of Tykn "Tey" is among the key note speakers, where he will shed more light on his project.
