It's 7 am and Linda is still in her bed when she hears some piano music playing in the living room downstairs. Linda is a single mom who lives with her 14-year-old son, Chris. She gets off the bed, slips on her slippers and makes her way down the stairs to find Chris playing the piano.
"Wow that is a lovely piece, Chris, when did you learn to play piano like that?" marvels Linda who had been standing behind Chris for 5 minutes without his knowledge.
Almost falling off the chair Chris is startled as he turns his head around to see his mom standing behind him. He was too immersed in his new song that he didn't hear the sound of his mother's footsteps as she walked up to him.
"How long have you been standing there?"
"Long enough, " answered Linda. "Who taught you to play like that?"
"Mom, it's 2018, blockchain technology has made it possible for anyone in the world with an internet connection to study whatever they want to learn from the comfort of their homes without paying through the nose."
"Of course I know my dear, but you haven't answered my question."
"Well, I know things are hard for you since dad left us, you have been struggling to stay afloat."
"Since I wanted to learn to play the piano so badly, I decided to find ways that are very affordable yet effective."
"Carry on, " said Linda, pretty curious to know how her son managed to get money to pay the piano instructor.

"Don't get any ideas mom, " answered Chris, " but yes anyone, including you. What's on your mind?"
" Well, since I'm good at baking cakes, I was thinking of sharing my passion too and earn some of those tokens. "
" Mom, that's a great idea, that could supplement your income and your cake business will get more exposure and grow," said Chris in agreement.

Three marketplaces
The project consists of three services in one product:
- Live services (1: 1, 1: 8)
With this, service providers can broadcast HD quality to anyone and it allows scheduling of live broadcasts and convenient billing coupled with an integrated chat and payments are done in ONL tokens.
Lawyers, doctors, language teachers and the like, can make use of this service. - Live broadcasts (1: many)
For TV, workshops, eLearning etc where service providers can make live HD broadcast to large audiences at once using such payment models as pay-per-view and pay-per-minute. - Transcoding and Relay Node
Network users can make some money by utilizing their computing power for transcoding and relay operations. The transaction protocols integrated into live streams makes it possible to confirm transactions during live streams. Users can rest assured that their PC or Mac is doing real work, not just some random calculations as in the case of many POW protocols.
How does it work?
- The service provider creates a channel for the live broadcasts and signs a smart contract for transcoding and relay services.
- The creator pays a small initiator fee to cover transcoding costs in case no one joins the broadcast.
- The service provider then chooses the transcoder who offers the services they need.
- The customers pay for the viewing (For actual delivered service).
Since the platform uses a blockchain, it is decentralized and eliminates unneeded middlemen and censorship.
All agreements between parties involved are signed using smart contracts and this guarantees service delivery.
Broadcasting and transcoding fees will be set by market forces according to supply and demand.
The creator can choose the payment model that they prefer:
Pay per view
The broadcaster will be charging for a 'ticket', an entry fee and viewers pay for each program that they choose to access. An integrated paywall ensures that all this is done in the broadcast window.
Pay per minute
Viewers pay for each minute of broadcast time. Sometimes a service provider may enter into a session with someone who wants help but they don't know how long the session will last so this is the best option to use for this case.
Subscription Plans
Content creators can choose to use subscription model where each user is charged a fee for a certain period and they can access broadcasts as much as they can during that period without limits. Language or fitness instructors may choose this option as they need to do many sessions before the user is fluent.
Tips and donations can also be utelized in the platform whereby if a user is really satisfied with a service, they can leave a tip for the broadcaster after the session.
The other way content creators can make money is through advertising. Broadcasters with large audiences can make a good income from advertising revenue using the built in system.
The quality of the services either content or transcoding and relay is guaranteed by the system of incentives and penalty. Service providers and transcoders will be rewarded for high quality content and if there are complaints that the quality is not good, broadcasters can be penalized. This is made possible by requiring that service providers stake their ONL coins on a smart contract. If a significant number of complaints is received the broacastor will be penalized.
All complaints are stored in the blockchain therefore to avoid bad reputation, service providers will be motivated to provide the highest quality at all times.
Onlive currency
The ONL token will be the only payment option on platform and all services will be paid for using this token. The ONL is an ERC20 token based on the Ethereum blockchain.
