Altcoin development summary for July: important dates and releases

This is our next effort to collect some of the important release or news dates for altcoins. Most if not all projects have came out with impressive roadmaps for the first half of the year, but we still have some fundamental progress to look forward to. In no way is this a complete list since if we wanted to do one it would probably never end, so we tried to point out a few interesting ones instead. The

Announcements

Hyperspace (Space Cash)

Date: 1st of July

Hyperspace intends to fork the Sia (SC) codebase and airdrop 3.5 billion coins onto SC holders. Alltogether 6.5 billion coins will be generated, but 3 billion will be allocated as a founders reward and will be locked down for 3 years according to the website. The project aims to be a privacy focused file sharing project where renters can also pay with fiat money for the services. Roadmap includes lick clients, hypernodes, free storage & fiat pricing.

Bytecoin (BCN)

Date: 4th of July

Bytecoin is one of the oldest privacy focused cryptocurrencies currently. The project has caused a lot of discussion after it pumped with over 1000% on the recent Binance addition. A lot of people might sill know that the project has had a very shady launch a few years back, but it seems like the developments are still continuing. A 6th anniversary surprise is announced for the 4th of July, but there is sadly no more info available. Might still be worth a gamble for whoever is interested in the coin.

Wanchain (WAN) mainnet 2.0 - 'Ethereum cross chain' launch

Date: 7th of July

Wanchain is offering to create a distributed financial infrastructure with private cross-chain smart contracts. Features will include a decentralized exchange (DEX), asset management tools, an ICO platform, cross-chain trading protocol and a multi-currency wallet. The event will be hosted at several destinations around the globe.

Nuls (NULS) mainnet release

Date: 12nd of July

Nuls is an open-source project, which aims to utilize a modular blockchain to offer a highly scalable smart contracts, multi-chain mechanism and cross-chain consensus. NULS uses a consensus mechanism called Proof-of-Credit. Different applications will run on different chains depending on what the aim and requirement of these are. Also note that the token swap registration is already running through the official website.

Groestlcoin (GRS) rebrand vote is starting

Date: From the 1st of July

Groestlcoin is one of the old timers within crypto. The project has been launched in 2014 and successfully made its way to Binance recently. The coin offers instant and private transactions with 'subAtomic fees'. The rebranding might help the project as the name, that comes from an Austrian food speciality, might be hard to pronounce for most people and also doesn't really fit for a project that is in the tech sector.

VeChain (VEN) mainnet launch and token swap

Date: Mid-July

VeChain is a blockchain platform that offers Blockchain-as-a-Service to enterprises for product and information sharing and tracking. The project is very popular in the blockchain space and have already several major partnerships behind them. The mainnet launch and token swap will be supported by the biggest exchanges including Binance and Huobi.

Launch of v2 protocol on 0x (ZRX)

Date: End of July

0x is a protocol that made decentralized exchanges and trust less ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum a reality. There are currently several relayers and businesses building on the protocol including Radar, Paradex, EthFinex, Maker, Aragon, etc.

Now the project is planning to release the second version of the protocol which will feature support for ERC-721 tokens and tokenized securities, while also offering a new smart contract architecture and a lot of additional changes.

Rchain (RHOC) testnet launch

Date: TBA (Sometime in July)

Rchain offers a decentralized application platform powered by the Rho Virtual Machine. The Ethereum like platform has a few good set of features, such as sharding by default to increase scalability an automatic formal verification for every line of code to result in highly scalable contracts. The that has several good names backing it including Vlad Zamfir, who is the researcher behind Ethereum's PoS labeled Casper, will launch its testnet in July according to the official roadmap.
