Coinbase Acquires Broker-Dealer License

Coinbase may soon be able to offer blockchain-based securities, according to a post on their Medium published yesterday. They have acquired a broker-dealer license and are awaiting federal approval. This would mean they operate under SEC rules and regulations, and could also pave the way for tokenizing securities in the future.

Forbes Top 10 Companies All Exploring Blockchain

All of the business in Forbes top 10 on the Global 2000 list of “largest public companies” have issued statements or otherwise indicated, directly or indirectly, that they are exploring blockchain technology. The companies include Apple, who has been very quiet about any upcoming blockchain projects, and investment firm Berskshire Hathaway. While not all 10 could be considered advocates of the technology per se, there are implications to the notion that the world’s largest corporations have taken notice.

VeChain, Shanghai Partnership for Alcohol on the Blockchain

Two of Shanghai’s governing authorities have partnered with VeChain to form the Shanghai Wine & Liquor Blockchain Alliance, an initiative to improve “traceability” of national alcohol production and foster growth for the Shanghai wine industry. The aim to have an official alcohol traceability system in place by 2020.

DENT Launches in Guatemala

DENT, a data marketplace for Ethereum, has launched in Guatemala. They’re kicking things off with a $50,000 donation to aid in the volcano relief efforts.

Fujitsu Launches Retail Blockchain Service

Fujitsu has announced its “Intelligent Society Solution Blockchain Asset Service” (whew), a blockchain-based platform offering retail “mechanisms,” such as coupons. Users can swipe QR codes to activate discounts at restaurants, shops, and a host of other use cases.

Blockchain Gaming Company Raises $5 Million for New Protocol

Blockchain gaming company EON Foundation announced that it has raised $5 million to fund its video gaming protocol. The initiative seeks to facilitate game development and deployment on different blockchains like EOS and Ethereum, and will incentivize players and developers with an EON token. EON Foundation’s CEO says they hope to be the “number one blockchain game publisher in the world.”

SAP SE Announces Enterprise Blockchain Solutions

SAP SE announced a new availability of products and partnerships for enterprise businesses to easily leverage technologies such as blockchain. Using the SAP Cloud Platform Cloud Blockchain, businesses can connect with solutions such as Hypertech Fabric to develop decentralized solutions and services.

Ambrosus Joins Swiss Food Research

Ambrosus, a blockchain network for food and pharmaceutical quality assurance, has joined the Swiss Food Research network. The network will connect Ambrosus technologies with Swiss agricultural supply chains.

Streamr Adds to Data Marketplace

Streamr will add EcoSteer and 1Forge as products to its data marketplace, announced today on its Medium page. 1Forge is a financial data provider and EcoSteer is an “Industrial IoT” software company. Streamr also announced the upcoming addition of tutorials and other tools to facilitate new user growth to their platform.

“BTC City” Mall Gets Crypto-Friendly Overhaul

Slovenia’s “BTC City” mall aims to live up to its name by becoming completely crypto-friendly. The 500+ stores will all accept BTC as payment and will all operate on blockchain-based technologies. It also sports a hotel, a casino, a movie theater, and a water park.

Waltonchain Launches Blockchain Institute

Waltonchain will launch its Blockchain Institute, a South Korea-backed non-profit, on June 8th. The Institute will aim to increase the number of blockchain developers and will kick off with two 6-month-long courses in August of this year.

BitMex Lists EOS Futures

Coinone Faces Gambling Charges

Executives from the Coinone trading platform are on trial in Seoul today, facing charges of gambling via margin trading. Margin trading is allowed on Korean stock exchanges, but digital currencies do not yet have the proper authorization. In total, 20 Coinone employees have been charged.

FOAM: Blockchain GPS

FOAM, an Ethereum startup, wants to bring GPS location services to the blockchain. Citing PokemonGo as an example, co-founder Ryan John King stated that the problems with centralized location services are that they are prone to failures and are easily tricked. FOAM will look to address this by implementing a “proof-of-location" system.

Predictive Analytics Offers High Trading Returns

Cindicator’s Hybrid Intelligence technology is claiming a return of 166% (just under 3x) on Bitcoin by using its custom predictive analytics indicators. 45 traders utilized the indicators in over 1,100 trades over the last eight weeks with an average 21% return in BTC. The indicators are based on forecasts from analysts, traders, and AI.

R3 Running out of Money

Two former employees of the R3 blockchain project claim that the company may run out of capital within a year. R3, which started in 2014 and raised $107 million in funding, lost high-profile partners like Goldman Sachs in 2016 when the attractiveness of membership apparently soured.
