Cryptocurrency Mining For Dummies - Battle of the Neoscrypt Miners

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

Welcome to another edition of Cryptocurrency Mining for Dummies! There is a new miner, hsrminer, available for Neoscrypt coins that claims to have a significant hashing advantage over ccminer, the reigning champ for Nvidia GPU mining.

Hsrminer, is currently only available as compiled proprietary software. It also has a mandatory 1% developer fee in the form of 1% of the GPU hashing being directed to a pool and coin wallet of the developers choice. In order to test which miner has the best performance, I ran both miners on the same GPU, on the same computer, pointed at the same mining pool. This allowed me to compare the performance reported by the pool in addition to the performance reported by both miners.

The GPU used for the test is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. The computer used was a Windows 10 Fall Creators Update edition. Since the hsrminer software is still under active development, the Series 10 GPU and Windows 10 edition were chosen to match what the hsrminer developers are currently supporting. If you have older equipment or OS, you should stick with ccminer for now.

Performance of ccminer

Shown below is the hashrate as reported by ccminer. It shows a very steady 352 kH/s mining speed.

Shown below is the hashing rate as reported by the mining pool. This value tended to fluctuate depending on how many shares were actually submitted in a five minute window.

Finally, shown below is a trend for the hashrate reported by the mining pool. The blue line is the real time hashrate and the yellow line is the average for the last 4 hours. The red arrow designates when additional GPUs were shut down so that only the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti was mining on the pool. Note that it took about 4 hours after the red arrow for the average hashrate to stabilize.

The trend line shows that the average hashrate using ccminer varied between 320 kH/s and 380 kH/s or an average of approximately 350kH/s which closely mirrors what ccminer reported.

Performance of hsrminer

Shown below is the hashrate as reported by hsrminer. While it varies more than ccminer, it only varies by less than 1% and shows a mining speed of approximately 381 kH/s.

Shown below is the hashing rate as reported by the mining pool. Once again, this value tended to fluctuate depending on how many shares were actually submitted in a five minute window.

Finally, shown below is the trend for the hashrate reported by the mining pool. The red arrow designates when I switched from ccminer software to hsrminer. Note that there is an initial dip in the real time hashrate before it starts to climb to it's actual rate.

After allowing for 4 hours for stabilization, the trend line shows that the average hashrate using hsrminer varied between 420 kH/s and 440 kH/s or an average of approximately 430kH/s which is less than hsrminer reported.

Analysis

Even after discounting the 1% developers fee charged by hsrminer, the clear winner was still hsrminer. It's 430kH/s rate was almost 23% faster than ccminer.

If you wish to give hsrminer a try you can download it from it's BitcoinTalk page here or read more about is on cryptominin-blog.com

Until next time...

I was reading on Bitcointalk that some people are reporting a memory leak in the hsrminer software that leads to decreased hashrate over time. Are you seeing any problems like that?

Here is the hashrate as reported by the pool for the last 24 hours. As you can see there was a small dip last night, but it eventually recovered without any intervention and has been hashing at a very good rate since then.

Very useful analysis. I'll be downloading hsrminer for my Neoscrypt coins. 23% more coins are always welcome now that the prices are falling.

With GoByte the most profitable coin still, you should make a little more using hsrminer.

your analysis...........always be good,,,,,,,its so informative......and useful....for every steemit friends.......i want to say ,,special thanks to you...........best of luck.....

Thank you, thank you very much.

hsrminer seem a good choice for sure

Absolutely!

looks like mining will be profitable once again

I hope so, I want to retire some day and mining is the only way I'll be able to.

Great analysis thanks bro for sharing this

You are welcome.

Great post thanks for sharing this post :)

You're welcome.

great analysis and mining report, both are fantastic GPU for mining
